I just got a heel Fjellkniven.. I'm quite happy it is a stunning knife. and seems it will be a great field companion
I was wondering about the longevity of Birch handles.. Seems like they might be susceptible to cracking and moisture.. any feedback? Thanks in advance.

RR, I have a Helle Kvernstein and the handle is also curly birch from the far north. Birch isnt generally the hardest wood, but I suspect the slow growing tightly ringed curly birch of the colder northern climates should be stronger than a typical birch tree in a warmer climate.

I haven't been babying my Helle Futura, and the handle is holding up just fine.

I do have an issue with a weak tang, or perhaps it is just a slightly loose fit in the handle.
