I used this gun blue on some knives, and I am now wondering how to keep the knives from stinking of the stuff.

TSP? Dishwasher detergant? Baking Soda slurry? I have tryed all three, but not for very long...just wiped them down. Do I need to bath them in it...and how long?

BTW, they turned out real nice. I drenched them in degreaser, then carburator cleaner, then wiped them down with pieces of an orange to get a patina look. Let them sit about 30 min (I have never done it this way and they started to get a rust color :o ) then I blued them with a cotten ball. I dabbed the soaked cotten ball against the metal, not a stroke.
Looks really good, but it smells.

What can I do about it???

thanks!

the smell that is:) hey i love the smell of blued firearms new and old. the smell of leather eeemmm! thats a rich one. the smell of gunsmoke! reminds me of VICTORY! sounds like you are getting a overwhelmed from being around so much of it. have any buyers said any thing? i bet not. you know that smell will become part of your trademark with loyal customers.trust me on this! i was in marketing/sales for about 20 years.

Not for sale, I am a novice and these are for me. But I am flattered that you would think that I could produce ones capable of being sold.

Being in college kinda takes all of my time away. The only knife I have given away is the CS Voyager that my dad broke the tip on. I reground it to a spear point, polished it all (via elbow grease) to 600grit, and put an edge on it like you wouldent believe. I also added a 4" braded tassle so that you can find it in your pocket.
Overall I think it turned out pretty good considering you cant disassemble CS knives.
I dont know if it is cause I made it, but he raves about it and it is all he carries.

The ones that I blued are a CS SRK that I cut the rubber handle off of and cleaned up, and a CS ATC Kukri. On the kukri I added a cho and left alot of the rough finish that they cover up with that epoxy coat. The rough look looks real cool with the patina from the blue.

Maybe I can get my buddies digital camera and post pics...hmmm

Thanks again!
