I found this high carbon Santoku blank and though it would make a good trout knife. I didn't care for the original handle profile so I did a bit of grinding to get the shape I wanted.

The handle is Redwood Lace with some Malachite spots and Mosaic pins.

After doing the vine file work, I took some of the malachite dust (which results when you cut the spots), and mixed it with super glue to fill in the spaces around the vine. I thought it would be a nice addition of matching color to accent the spots.

I've been toying around with wooden sheaths and wanted to make something that could be either worn on a belt, or hung from a vest (I prefer to hang mine from my vest). It's kind of an experiment as I've never made a sheath before and this is my first.

The sheath is made from Acacia wood as is the lanyard fob.

I pretty much use tung oil finish on everything. If I end up giving these away, tung oil is a simple finish for anyone to touch up/freshen if needed.

Unique piece.....Nice work !

Thanks Dusty...

Like any piece I've ever made, I stand back and look at the finished product and "wish I'd done this or that differently." It's a learning process isn't it? One I've really come to enjoy.

Next time I do something similar, I'll incorporate the "improvements" that I see need to be made.

This is one of the reasons I don't sell my "stuff" (another would be that I'm just not "good enough" to sell anything:D).

Generally, I make something with a particular person in mind to give it to (and by golly they'll just have to take what they get "as is":D), or I make things for myself.

If someone happens to admire it enough "as is", they may just find it under the Christmas tree next year (as is:D).

If I made things to "order" it would be a "job" and I'm "staunchly retired".:D
