Hey guys,

Who makes a good fixed blade bird and trout knife for well... trout and turkey? I'm looking to buy a designated hunting knife for turkey next month. Curious who makes a quality knife. I'm not looking to spend $400 but i'm reasonable price vs quality.

I know Bark River has a B&T design. The CPM 154 is on pre-order now. They also offer a S45VN model. I'm not sure if that is out now or also on pre-order. I would guess in the $200-250 range since I didn't see a price online. Not sure how you feel about BRK tho.

Grohmann makes (or made) two different sizes of B&T I know.

Some of the makers on this forum probably offer a B&T knife. You could try a post here https://www.bladeforums.com/forums/wanted-knifemaker-craftsman-related-services.871/ or search the makers For Sale forum.

Look in the Knife Exchange. I've seen quite a few customs in the Knifemaker's section that are very reasonably priced.

That's just a few that might fit the bill.

I should have prefaced this by stating i'm looking for a sheathed fixed blade.
You should have no issues finding a nice one from James Behring. He sells on his website and there’s many dealers that have them, it’s usually not too hard but they’re in that $400 price range. (His model is called a Trout and Bird). Well worth it for a super nice handmade knife that will last you forever.

This is mine: A gift from a friend and the sheath was made by C claude scott . It’s a beaver tail inlay.

Is modern styles are okay and you can get your hands on them, try the Spyderco Waterway and Spyderco Sprig.

I know TOPs and RMJ makes a few small thing guys as well; White River Knives too.

Have fun!

Grohmann #2 Bird and Trout knife. The larger #1 Original works very nicely on fish, small game, and birds. The #3 Boat/Army/Yachtsman model does very well with all kinds of game and is also a very good utility knife. They are all very comfortable, feel like a scalpel in hand and hold a good edge. They come in both stainless and carbon steel with a variety of handle materials.

No! That is a "tactical" knife, not a B&T knife. I'm betting that you're recommending it because you just got one, not that you've ever gutted fish or field dressed any birds with one. If you tried, you'd find that the tanto knife profile is horrible for use to dress game and gut fish and will only rip & puncture your game.
You need a blade with a gentle curve at the tip to be able to control your cuts and scraping without damaging your fish & game.

I suggest a Grohman Trout knife, available for under $100.

Well the guy in the video suggested it was good for hunting and fishing! The trout knife is horrible!
You mean you watched a YT video and you're throwing recommendations based just on that?

That guy is trying to sell cheap knives... and you need to spend more time here reading about knives, types of knives, and how to use knives. The blade profile tells a lot about what it'll be good for as well as what it can't do.

If you like tantos, great! I have several myself, from mass production to hand-made customs. But I'd still never use one to dress game or gut & filet fish.

If you haven't bought that $16 tanto, I'd suggest you pass on it. I'll guarantee you that it's garbage. Go buy something more reliable.

You will find the stonewashed blade is 7Cr Steel Blade very strong The Winchester Silvertip is very weighty 5.6 oz. and has a good grip Handle! Not a flimsy light, Like the Grohman where it will easily catch onto something and fall out of your hand. I have a couple of them still in the package. Most are sold out. but I found who has them in stock! https://www.knifecountryusa.com/sto...de-knife-with-black-and-gray-sculpted-micarta
