Disclaimer:
Please forgive my blatant wordiness here. What to us has become normal lingo, others have no clue, and I have cut/paste this thread from another forums site that has nothing to do with knifes at all! Hence, when you read my descriptions, you'll know wht I have tended to sell it a little!
Despite the power outages and high winds this week, I managed to finish this pair of charming bird & trout knives. I am offering them for sale here, so let me tell you a little about them.
Blade Length: 3"
Overall Length: 6.75"
Blade Material: 440C Stainless, cryogenically-treated
Handle Materials: Bocote (top) and Thuya Burl (lower)
Guard, pins and thong liner: 300 Stainless
Sheaths: Vegetable-Tanned Cowhide, hand-tooled and hand-sewn by me
The Bocote handle of the top knife is very dense and hard wood. The black grain lines match nicely the black sheath. The Thuya Burl handle of the lower knife has lovely figures in it. When freshly-waxed, these little swirls look almost iridescent in the light. As you handle the knife, you can see a nice depth in there. Both handles have been preserved and stabilized. A fine danish oil finish has been added, and waxed to produce a wonderful soft luster.
These Knives are razor-sharp and should stay that way for a long time. 440C stainless will never rust or tarnish. Its very tough steel when cryogenically-treated, and should last a few lifetimes with normal use.
A word about my sheaths now. I do not own a sewing machine, nor do I subscribe to any unnatural acts of leatherworking. All my sheathes are made the old school way. All the tooling and forming is done by hand. I use only premium top-grain cowhide and I use linen thread. All my stitching is done by hand, with using a saddle-stitch and waxed thread. The wax I use is a special blend of pine rosin and beeswax that I make myself. The pine acts as an antifungal and helps seal and protect the stitching in harsh conditions. The sheaths are also protected from water using a special coating that repels water and dew.
I'm asking <edited> each for these knives plus shipping. Contact me via email if you would like to add one to your adventures. No matter where you are, a fine knife like this will always be your constant companion, and will never let you down! Thanks for looking!
