Bird & Trout. My first solo design

So for my first solo design I figured I would try and draw and make a little bird and trout knife.

The steel started out as 1/8th 1084 carbon steel and the scales are curly walnut with orange g10 spacer material for a little colour pop. Overall length is just a hair under 7 inches with the blade being 2-7/8th from tip to plunge line. I have been using it in the kitchen regular for a bit now as a paring knife and am quite pleased.

Not a great photographer so the curl of the walnut does not show up well in these pics but in person it is pretty nice. Being a newbie and being this was only my 4th knife I would love a bit of feedback on my interpretation and execution of this classic design.

Thanks for looking!

It looks like a nice design and well made. The only two things I might mention are that the choil area, or where the underside of the handle transitions into the blade, seems unfinished. There are scratches evident there. The other things is that it looks as if the angle of that same section could be a bit risky. Slippery hands could slide up that ramp and onto the edge. Maybe it feels more positive in the hand in real life. Seems like it's a practical little knife and a good effort.

Yes my finishing needs some practice. Because I am doing things simply for myself I think I am just being lazy, but I have to buckle down and just sand my button off! As for the feel in hand, so far in the kitchen the knife feels pretty planted and I haven't had any issues. I have been working it too. Cutting everything from small veggies to thick meat just to get a feel for it. I did try and make a distinct indent under that point but it doesn't seem to show well. I will have to pay attention to that on version 2.0...

Thanks for the critiques!

Nice looking piece, like the orange liners. It adds to the knife. Looks like the handle will fit comfortable in hand and is proportional to overall length.
Nice work!!!!
