Here is the first tarwar made by BirGorkha. The blade bears no kami marks but I can see it is a collaboration of Bura and Kumar and they have done a very good job. In fact, it's the best tarwar I have seen come out of Nepal.

The tarwar measures 29 inches overall, with 8 inch handle made of wood from Thailand. Blade is 5/16 thick and about 1 & 3/4 wide at max width. Weight if 2 & 1/2 pounds. Fit and finish is excellent. Hardness excellent. Scabbard and frog very good.

This model is sold, special order, but if anybody is interesed in getting a duplicate for $275 email me and we will order it up.

Not at all bad. Need review ASAP from whomever got it. make blade 2/3rds as wide and 1/3rd longer...

Now if they just happen to inadvertently handle it with the poorly cured stuff so it cracks once on it's way over so it becomes a blem that I can afford....

This is good! I was hoping that a wider variety of indigenous South Asian weapons would be offered, and this looks like a start. HOpefully we'll se more -- khandas, talwars, etc.

BTW: It this is BirGhorka's first tarwar, who made the one shown on the HI website?

:
Very Nice!!!
I am gonna have to go along with my little Bro though, to afford one it would have to be a blem.
The khukuri will always be my favorite I believe.

I think it's nice that H.I. and Birghorka is offering these different breeds of blades.
Who knows there amy be one someday I won't be able to live without.

The old tarwar was made at shop 1 -- decent enough but not as good as this one by BirGorkha.

These will never be good sellers but it is nice to know that we can make a couple if and when we want.

Bro I know it may be a pain with all the problems you've had lately, but if you would get a nice big light blue bath towel or a piece of light blue cloth to lay the subjects on your pix would come out much better detailed.

Either that or we (I) could volunteer to paint your spool when we all come out in August.

Uncle Bill, put me down for one, if the customer that special ordered this is satisfied with his order. Also, would like to hear his field report on this.

AHHHHH the agony...

Uncle, put me down for one of these. I know that I will forget about it, and then some day be in the middle of a really bad flare up of HIKV And a long package will appear.

Yup. I think this is just what the doctor ordered.

Looks good Bill;but since I put my hands on that first khukuri you sent me ,I don't chop with any thing else;I just get disappointed.
I will be interested in how this works and how the arm feels after a few hours use. With that heft it should chop as good or better than other straight blades.

Blade length & thickness and handle length all sound pretty good, and it sure looks cute. Where's the point of balance? My only reservation would be the balance; without a pommel to act as a counterweight, my guess is that it might be a tad blade-heavy

Sorry if this is a distracting question, Uncle Bill, but you said above that the old tarwar was made in Shop 1. Do you still deal with them? Ie., are those swords pictured on the HI website still available? I'm asking not for the tarwar there but for the Ram Dao, which I think is pretty cool...

Surprise, Surprise. I talked my wife into letting me turn one of the walls in our apartment into a display, and she said that she wished I had a little more variety. I am always happy to help.

Historically, these swords have not sold well at all so they are a low priority item. We may make a few koras and ram daos along with the tarwars but I really don't like to deal in them -- the are very heavy so shipping is high, costly to make if you do the job right, and small quantities sold make these items not very attractive.

But if we get three or four takes on any of them we will make a special run. Tarwars are lighter and easier and more popular.

We are pretty much done with Shop 1. BirGorkha is making better stuff and at a very good price due to "high tech" innovations.
