Picked yesterday's order up today about noon at the town Post Office. Mailed one package and then asked if there was a package for me. ( My box is at the other end of the building, and the guy usually remembers the triangular boxes when I get one. Must be the Xmas rush! )
There was. And I have examined them. How did I manage to convince myself that these would make good presents? The only present that's going to be given here is from me to me.
To keep it short and sweet, I ordered 2 by Bura and got one by Bura and one by RR. No problem, the RR knife had a bit longer and thinner handle than the Bura. Blades seem almost identical.
The difference between HI and BG is a matter of cosmetics to me. I compared them to my shop one 12" Sirupati "Audrey". Audrey was lightly fullered, giving a tad less weight, and her handle was the slimmer feminine hourglass shape
against the other's more stocky build.
All three blades other than the fullering and finish were so close you could have gotten more variation tracing a template with a scribe on a dyekem'd piece of steel. ( I know, a day or two back I said the 12"ers had the most variation from one to another. Complain to Bill. I said what was absolutely true, right up to now. )
All told, the RR is a little nicer than the Bura. Both are rock solid users that you needn't worry about getting scratched up. They drive me nuts, though, as I don't think I can let the beautiful lines underlying the rougher surface stand as they are. I want to take sandpaper to them and make them shiny!
PS: Will be at dentist Friday getting 2 teeth pulled.
