Birth card doesn't match date stamp

Just bought a regular sebenza off the exchange that has a rather strange characteristic - the birth card says it was made in April 2005, but the handle slabs are marked B06. While I'm aware that sometimes the birth card has a date later than the knife, I've never heard of it being the other way around. Is there any explanation for this other than that the birth card was mixed up by a prior owner? Although it doesn't bother me, I'd be interested to know the story behind this.

I agree, that is odd! I would call Idaho Monday, and then let us know the story:)

I'm not trying to be a downer here, but I bought a Mnandi recently on the Exchange and ended up deciding to sell it a few weeks later. When I listed it, I was contacted by a couple of members who let me know that the birth card was not original to the knife. Needless to say, I had to sell it without a birth card and took a $75 hit. I blame myself for not knowing any better.

I guess the point of this is that the card doesn't always follow the knife. Heck, I've seen listings where the item for sale was birth card only. I hope that this isn't the case for you guys though. Please let is know what CRK says.

The same thing happened to me recently and I sent the knife back. The birthcard is not original to the knife. It is fairly common for it to be the other way around though. The birthcard is from when the knife is assembled

CRK replaced the lock-side slab on my knife due to some messed up cuts on the lockbar (and therefore really sticky lock) and maybe there was a problem with both slabs.

Does the birth card say "refurbish" on it anywhere? If it does, someone lost the original card and had it replaced. I don't know if you can get a new birth card without it being refurbished, though.

I think the wrong box and card could be an easy explanation. I was thinking about this the other day. I have a few pre Idaho made 21's(plain Jane) and was deciding how I was going to keep track of the right box for the right knife, so this exact thing didn't happen,. It would be easy to mix up boxes if they didn't check the scale before selling or have a system to keep track.
The only other explanations I can think of are repair parts or the CRK employee doesn't know the year :)
CRK definitely didn't build it with parts from the future :)

This is almost certainly the explanation for the OP. The card isn't this knife's card. :(

Contact the original seller he probably just got the boxes mixed up. This can happen to anyone with multiples of the same knife. Seems to be the easiest explanation. Unless CRK built a time machine (of course it would be full TI with extremely tight tolerances) :p

Thanks for the responses everyone. I figured it was just a mixup, but I wanted to see what you guys had to say. At any rate, I ended up switching to a BG-42 regular for other reasons.
