Birthdates to Dealers Question

Has anyone had luck with CRK telling you where certain birthdate knives have shipped recently? About 5 months back, I asked about an upcoming birth and what I needed to do to get the knife, and they said after the date, let them know what I was looking for and they would tell me which dealers to call. Fast forward, and after an email and a call, I have gotten two different reports on which knives were made, and neither person would tell me which dealers got them. I’m specifically looking for a 5/26/22 knife, which has already hit the street, or will be soon due to bladeshow delays. I at least know that I’m looking for some sort of small inkosi (first person said just tanto with no idea if inlay, and second said insingo and tanto with no inlay).

I haven’t asked CRK about that, but I browse dealers regularly looking for birth dates. I know some dealers will post the birth date cards. Good luck

I have had pretty accurate response from CRK regarding knives made on a particular date on more than one occasion. Most recently 4-12-22. I also scored a couple that weren’t on the list for that day.

What was your process for finding them? I was also told that tanto Zaans were made that day, but I’m gunning for the small inkosis. Did you just watch dealers and ask? Two small inkosis came up today at dealers in my search (actually via alerts I signed up for) that posted just today - one was 5/10/22 and one was April 2021. The majority of dealers don’t post dates for knives.

So basically after they gave me the information I kept an eye out on the dealers daily and as soon as some popped up I sent them emails or called. The bonus ones from this recent attempt ended up being large bog oak ladders that I just happen to notice at GP.

What I ended up doing was giving CRK my knife specifics through email. They sent me a list of dealers that would be getting or got the knives. Then I ended up calling dealers and asking them to keep an eye out. Knives ship free will keep you on a list and call you when that specific knife comes in. Everybody was awesome and kept an eye out for me, looked through boxes and was helpful. But in the end knives ship free had the knife I was looking for. I wanted two with my sons birth date.

That’s awesome. I asked twice for a list of dealers to no avail, via two different customer service reps.

I said something like “hey, my son is going to be born on (insert day) and I was wondering if you could tell me if any Sebenza 31 were made on that day and if so where were they shipped?” They replied back with a list of places and I called around and everybody I called went through the boxes with me on the phone. I wanted a plain Jane but ended up with a black micarta instead because i took what was available.

Congratulations on finding the knife!
I’ve been in a similar situation, my first born was born about 5 weeks ago on a Saturday. Obviously CRK was closed then, but I found a CRK with a birth date that was on the day the wife went into labor after checking multiple dealers daily.

Nice. I guess it depends on who you get on the phone. I’m not going to try a 3rd time to ask where the inkosis went. I’ll just keep watching dealers. Luckily, I’m looking for inkosis, and they don’t fly off the shelves like zaans or PJ 31s.

Try knives ship free. I had almost given up hope when I got the call.

Thanks. It’s worth a try. I emailed them. I reached out to them a while back for an 8/28/29 knife because CRK made Damascus inlays on that day, and KSF had a ton of them just sitting there. They weren’t exactly the most eager to check the dates. Maybe you’re just more of a people person so everyone is ready to help you lol.

The search is over. The nauseating search, that Is. Checked this morning, and ended up seeing a plain inkosi tanto at GP. It was actually silver lug, so I’m glad I saw it so soon - that’s likely to be a hotter item than the normal blue lug.
