Well,
My 14th birthday is coming up in just a few weeks, and I would really like balisong for a present. I am practicing with my Jaguar more and more every day, but personally (even though I hardly have any experience with balisongs) I think it is a piece of crap. The latch is messy, the pins aren't tight enough, feels too loose, and it is chipped in quite a few places.
I don't have that much money to be a real knife collecter :( so please recommend a balisong that can last me for a good while. Something I can use as an every day carry for cutting things, meanwhile practicing my manipulation back home.
Please help a beginner out with picking his birthday gift :)

I would say save a get a Benchmade 42. I know they are pretty expensive, but as far as balis go they are the best deal going(you can find them online for $109). The 42 is a great EDC and will last a lifetime!

Happy Hunting...

Any of the new BM's will make you a happy camper. Very usable, sharp, sturdy.., and you can flip till you drop, and your knife will still be waiting when the cuts heal ;)

Hope you have a nice B-Day Worm! :)

If the handles are loose, Clay’s page gives step-by-step instructions for repining. It’s easy enough. Any Bali makes a great EDC you only need to know how to sharpen. The price may sting a little, but BM is the way to go.

It's that famous quote 'pay me now, or pay me later.'

You'll invest a hundred smackers on a benchmade, or you can buy 5 jags.

I can break 5 jags in about a years worth of EDC. But, my benchmade has gone through much more abuse in a year, and still locks up tight open and closed.

Now, if you want something special, go buy a jag and send it to Mer to get rehandled. Still, it'll cost you roughly a hundred bucks, but you'll end up with a quality product.
You'll also be one of the first one's on your block that won't be able to get one exactly like yours.

Want a quality balisong you can get anywhere? Go with a Benchmade.
