Birthday present for me?

Hello everyone! My name is Logan and I'm new to this forum. Read a lot of your threads over the last couple months and I figured I should actually become a part of this. Loving the information at my fingertips! Anyway..

My birthday is less than a month away, and I want to buy myself something nice for my 21st birthday! I'm open to suggestions. My daily carry is currently a Spyderco Robin 2, or A CRKT M16-01KS. I work around a lot of cardboard, but I'm not using it to cut the board, I've got other tools for that! I don't like assisted openers, serrated blades, or the lack of pocket clips. Price point is 150-225 dollars.

To best fill your needs/wants, it might be best to know what you plan to use the blade for. Have fun!

Nothing too heavy. Plastic strap cutting, box opening, etc. I work in a shipping department and I want something more sturdy than my M16 for the "What if" moments when I encounter something out of the ordinary.

Welcome, let us spend your money! :)

You can really get 2 great blades with your price point. I'd look into the Benchmade Griptilian, everyone needs at least one. If you want a beafy Benchmade check out the Bone Collector 15020. I'd also check out the Spyderco Manix 2, and Endura. With the left over cash, look at the Buck Vantage line, you can choose the steel and how much you want to pay.

Lastly, you may want to check out a good multitool. You don't have to spend much. My favs are the Victorinox one handed opening Trekker, and Leatherman has some affordable options with the Sidekick and Wingman.

Happy Birthday! A blade is a great way to celebrate.

I got myself a Benchmade 300SN for my birthday, and I couldn't be happier. The flipping action is hit or miss for some people, but it works really well for me. Plus you can't go wrong with an axis lock :)

I've heard a lot about the Grip/Mini Grip and how I have to have one! I was just wanting some second opinions. There's one on my Amazon wishlist! Haven't looked into anything from Buck, so that's good to hear that they're worth my time.

I've got a Leatherman Skeletool in my backpack and a PS4 Squirt on my keychain, along with a Countycomm Titanium widgy and a Cold Steel Micro Recon. What does the Trekker have over the Skeletool?

I can see me and axis locks being friends.. I have a problem with fiddling with stuff when bored! What kind of upkeep do you have on yours?

If you have a skeletool, you're probably covered for now. :) Trekker has a locking main blade, saw, can opener, small flathead, philips, bottle opener, awl. It has a different look and the blade is bigger than the Skeletool. Maybe find one in person and see if you like it.

Get the Grip, it's a great blade. For your price, you may also want to check out Benchmade's website where you can customize with choice of steel, hardware color, and handle color.

for under $150 get the benchmade 810 contego it has cpm-m4 steel wich would be youre best bet for cardboard it also is very thin behind the cutting edge which makes it an awesome slicer or the benchmade 710 in cpm-m4. I fliped some of my benchmades for years and never had a problem its a very good lock.

buy a ffg zdp-189 delica, then lurk the spyderco forums here for a sec and find the guy who makes custom scales and get some nice g10 scales. either that or get a ritter grip/mini grip in m4.

Get a ZT 0561 its on the upper end of your price range but its amazing the bearings are super smooth its addictive to play with hahaha. Titanium framelock with elmax steel there is nothing it cant handle

Not sure what your size preference is, but check our the spyderco delicas or benchmade griptillians if your looking for a well price high preformance blade!

I like a lot of the recommendations here. Also, check out the Benchmade Volli. It's got s30v steel, axis lock, and is a slicey little devil.

Try out the handle of the contego before you buy it, if you were thinking about that. It works for some people but not for others

I'd say get a nice zt 0200, a steal really. US made with 3d machined G10 handles, high flat grind, 154CM, its is a LOT of knife for the money

Leaning towards the Griptilian, but Delicas are on my list too. I like the concept of the scale customization. Preferred steel?

Both steels are done very well by each company but the vg-10 that spyderco makes seems to hold an edge a little better then he 154cm but if you can get a ritter griptillian the s30v is top notch

I'm gonna be making my own Grip, and I just wanted clarity on whether or was worth the extra twenty. Writing down the steel for the Spyderco though.
