Birthday present for my brother

Hey all,

I just bought my brother a Delica 4 for his birthday. I figured that the saber grind on it would stand up to more abuse than the newer FFG Delica's. As a gift for someone new to knives, I'd like some advice on my choice; should I have gotten him a different knife? Should I have gone for a FFG Delica instead?

The advice would be relevant to my future birthday present purchases, as I have another brother's birthday which is coming up soon.

Thanks in advance.

According to Spyderco, the saber grind is supposed to be stronger as they have to start with a thicker stock than with a FFG blade. Horse a piece really. Either one is good, FFG is a better slicer though probably minimally. IMO FFG just looks better.

you got him a great knife...personally i prefer full flat but i wouldnt worry too much if its for a non-knife guy.

I think the saber ground Delica is just about perfect as an edc knife. You're a good brother.

Very good choice for anyone. Perfect size and a great way to introduce some one to quality knives.

You don't have to worry about a Spyderco holding up, period. Great present.

Thanks for allaying my fears which, probably, are just from me over-thinking my decision. I am considering a mini-grip or a leatherman wave/charge as my next gift, but I don't feel that leatherman is knife-like-enough to give my next brother.

Any other knives you would recommend in the 50-75 dollar range as a good knife for a new knife guy?

second that mini grip.

i've given away most of the kershaw knives that i've bought to non-knife friends and they all loved them... a leek, a shallot and a large NRG.
