Ben's skeletonized EDC reminded me I haven't yet posted one of my most popular models here: the Birudashi
The first one started as a challenge, and now are about 50% of what I move.
My current 'standard full-size' model has holes from 5/16" to 1/2" in 1/16" steps to match the taper of the profile. Usually these are out of ~0.140" stock, but there are variations. Most have been fully hand-done, but a small batch was water-jet cut as a test. Most are single-side ground, sharpened on the back, which helps enormously with sheathing them. The forward-most hole and the taper act as retention features in the sheath. They are generally low-finish knives, sporting heat-treat surfaces and a medium-grit hand-polished bevel.
Although I love the feel in the hand without the 'biru' cut in the back, obviously the modified ones are the most popular... I carry one in S35VN now, but have a soft spot for the super-fine-edged 1084 pieces with the dramatic blackened surface and polished bevel.
Some pix from customers:
My neighbor, Jason, torture-tested one of my early ones. He makes custom surfboards, can you tell?:
I keep telling Murph to drink better beer.
:
GSOM keeps trying to get me to drink HIS beer:
And Gus, you guys have a GREAT stout from Mill St. Brewery... does it come in bottles?:
Thanks for looking,
