Bison Bushcraft knives

I saw an article on them in a past edition of Tactical Knives. Apparently the original design was an attempt to create a stronger mora or puukko style knife. The knives look good and would probably perform well, but seem kind of pricey to me. There are any number of makers who produce full tang designs that are equal or better for half the price.

Check the Jan 2003 issue of Tactical Knives. On page 32 is George W. Buxton's article on the Bison Bushcraft knives.

AWK-H, If the Bison knives are too expensive for your taste go to www.ragweedforge.com. Click on Finnish Knives, go to Iisakki Jarvenpaa knives and scroll down to the Classic Utility Knife. The photo does not do it just. It has a 4 1/4 inch birch handle, with a nickel silver bolster. The carbon steel blade is 3 1/4 inches long and 1/8 inch thick. The handle is deceptive, as it has enough belly to pull against when drawing the knife or a pull cut, yet short enough to put in the palm of your hand when pushing. The blade takes a good edge and is quite a bit stronger than a Mora blade. The sheath is a typical Scandinavian pouch sheath with a full plastic insert, that completely encloses the blade. Best of all it is only $32. The knife weighs 3 ounces, with the sheath a total of 4 1/2 ounces so you can wear it around your neck if you desire. Ragnar is very easy to work with and gives great service.
