Bit by a Cat

I've been carrying my Cat 440C a lot lately. The size, weight and feel of the knife fit me well. Today, I reached in my pocket, not knowing that the blade was partially open. It cut my middle finger pretty badly, probably could have used a couple of stitches. Anyway, it feels like the detent is gone. The knife will barely stay closed. I've only had it about 2 months. Anyone else have this problem?

I just got a Cat about a month ago and have not had any problems with it. Mine is the version with out jimping, not that it affects the detent, but it is a great knife to edc.

Mine has never opened unexpectedly, but the pivot on mine is pretty tight. Have your tried tightening up the pivot a bit?

Do you have car keys or change in the pocket? I have had car keys open a liner lock, and won't carry one with anything else in the pocket, since then. This was not a Spyderco.

Been carrying my new Cat for a month or so now. Never an issue like that, but I honestly don't see how it could happen, assuming it's riding in your front right pocket. Carrying tip up in that fashion, places the blade in a position that it's almost impossible for the blade to open on its own.

Yeah, I've tightened the pivot. The problem is that there is no detent.

That's a great idea, I do carry it in the same pocket as my keys.

It does ride in my right front pocket, no clip, carried tip up. Based on your post, I guess I am lying and created this post for attention :p

It's not that you're lying, man. It just sounds absurd to carry a knife tip up NOT clipped so that the blade is against your pocket seam. If you carry it that way, there is a really, really small chance of cutting yourself.

If the knife does in fact have a detent issue, send her in. They'll take care of you.

Sorry.

Yep, that's the point I was trying to make. Thanks for your rendition.

Most of the liner locks I own have a very small ball called a detent ball. I suppose it could have fallen out.

I was messing with you, no offense intended. Most of my knives normally ride in my pocket, blade down. This particular knife always ends up tip up. I should probably put the clip back on.
