I have been collecting knives for over a couple years now and feel I have a fair understanding of blade steels, shapes, grinds, handle materials, etc... That being said I'm a bit lost on my search for a sword. I want a samauri style sword 40"-50" Overall, that I can take outside and go fruit ninja/ limb chopper/ hog hunter with. I've got $350-$450 to spend, any suggestions?

Thanks, I just looked up the cold steel videos on youtube for the warrior series Katana. Don't know, might be what I'm after.
Never owned a busse product, but they seem to be very popular here.

I only have the most entry level example, a Scrapyard Scrapivore, but it is a strong sturdy little fixed blade. Most of them are beautiful knives and the word in the woods (Busse's don't live comfortably in the streets) is they're some of the toughest around. I dig their swords even more than the knives. If you have the coin give them a look.

The Cold Steel swords are nice. I had a warrior. Heavy duty and a good cutter but badly balanced. Check out the Sword Buyer's Guide models made of T10. It's incredibly resilient and resists taking a set from a bad cut. They come in differentially heat treated models too that have a very nice hamon. Better balanced than the CS swords I've handled and much livelier in the hand. The CS had better fittings but the blade on the SBG won hands down. Also look at the Ronin Dojo Pro. And visit the sword subforum here and READ!

Check out Kris cutlery. They have a nice selection of Philipine, Chinese, Japanese, and other swords. They are not for chopping trees. I have their Gladius, and it is not an axe. Their Pinuti is nice, as are some of their other blades.
For chopping trees, use an axe or kukri.

Thanks Bigfatts, I'll be checking into that. While I don't intend on chopping any trees, I would like to get the most bang for my buck on a user katana.
Zombie tools hmmm??? Tough name to like just sounds kinda like a cheap novelty thing, but if they produce a good product that's not all dressed up with crazy logos, blade shapes, or colors and there competitive with other brands... Why not?

ZT look to be good user products. They sure beat the snot out of them. Their waiting list was 6~ months last I heard. There are some people on the board here that have their products and like them.

I'm one of those that like the Zombie Tools swords (I have a Hellion and ordered a Xiphos). If you are interested in a katana-like user sword, you should take a look to the Hanwei Banshee sword. It's not too expensive (well within your stated budget) and it's useful for cutting brushes and vines. I have two; one of thm, I have the handle changed and put a katana tsuba to it. Not there yet, with the handle; I'll have changed again.
