Well, as you guys know, my first blade I called the elephant was finally finished. It was 3/16" by 1" 0-1 and done by hand files with about the same specs as Chiro's little bully. well, the edge was too thick to get a good edge, so I got ticked off at it and took the files, Lansky and then Arkansas stones to it to thin out the edge. Now it cuts really good, as my thumb can attest too! Didnt know elephants could bits like that! Well, now its on to knives # 2, 3 and 4!

Taz,
I'm gonna take the plunge and do the handmade thing too. Based on your filing experience, would you recommend using 1/8" stock or 3/16" for a first knife?

I would recommend 1/8". less material to remove. Also, it would be lighter and the handle would be a little thinner. Have fun!
