While I have always enjoyed sharp shiny stuff I have alway had a soft spot for those people friendly old school slippies. I truly enjoy any and all patterns, makers, steels, handle materials, blade shapes, etc. I am currently on a bad kick of stockman fever. As an Ag Teacher obviously I have a huge interest in the FFA and dang if I didn't combine my profession and my stockman fever with an 8OT special made for the FFA. Now do I open the knife when it gets here and put it to use or keep in new? Also I found something I hadn't seen before last weekend, and orange slab 8OT. Any info on this one? I can't stop myself. I see and I have got to have it. It doesn't matter what it is as long as its a slippie. Now if I can just get rid of a few tacticool folders I have collected over the years I can get the GEC I have been eyeballing for the last 2 months.

My name is HAKnPocket and I am a traditional knifeaholic. (and I am quickly bringing my son to the slip side)

HAK you're missing the obvious .......... use it and then in a few years pass it on to your son ........ think about it ........ a knife that his dad carried and used every day ......... "Son, I got this knife back in 2010 when I had Stockman fever. It was a very special knife to me because........".

Isn't that better than "Son, I got this knife back in 2010 and it's been in safekeeping ever since. I haven't touched or used it, except to take it out once every 6 months .......".

Your choice, HAK. Let us know what you decide! ;)

Oh I am pretty sure it's going to get used. Maybe in my rotation so not everyday but used just the same. Right up until I get the elusive GEC furtaker in yellow rose. Man do I like the looks of that one.

Stephen, there are enough of those FFA 8OT's around that you can have a user and a nice one to put up, especially if it's still sealed in it's original package. Is it the pack with the patch? The orange one might be an unfinished SMKW (Smoky Mountain Knife Works) 8OT, I know they had a number of other models made with the orange handles.

The FFA knife is likely from around 1994, here's some paperwork to go with it:

That's the one ea42. I am going to make this one a user and if I can get the orange one I saw last weekend I am going to get it as well. I got a thing for bright colored knives, but don't worry I still like natural materials too.

This may just be me, but any knife I own that I have decided not to use, I know there is a chance I will sell it someday. Every other knife I own, no matter how expensive it was, if I know for a fact that I will never sell it, I use it :)

Oh yes. It arrived today and it is a definite user. May have paid a bit much for it but oh well that's life and I wanted it. The cosmaline left in the package created a nice patina on the clip and sheepsfoot blades and a bit of tarnish on one of the bolsters. I will try to get pics up tomorrow if I can find the camera. Thanks for all the responses.
