Bitteroot Scales?

I have been struck with an idea that's crazier than usual for me...

Has anyone, especially Rob, thought about putting scales on a Bitteroot? I wouldn't want big thick things, since the whole point of this knife is its slimness, but a pair of thin-yet-textured scales might give it an even more secure grip. Ideally I would want scales that are less than 1/8" thick each, which would probably be more trouble than they're worth to produce. I'm not sure whether G-10 can even be worked that thin.

So, am I nuts, or is the idea viable? And does anyone think it would be worth trying?

Rob: Can I get a "Gunner Grip" for the Bitteroot? :D

I think the idea is viable...I've already tried it! Well, with canvas micarta scales, anyway. I'm absolutely positive it could be done, but on the day I tried it I was definitely all thumbs and it came out badly. Fortunately I hadn't attached them yet. I don't have any more scrap micarta laying around, though.

As to the G-10, I've never tried to work it myself, but I have a Benchmade 710 with G-10 scales that are measuring 3/32 thick, so at least we know it comes thin enough. :)

I have had this idea rolling around in my head, ever since the Blade show, where I got my Bitteroot. I am thinking about handrubbing a nice finish on the entire knife, and using 2 small screws to hold on the handle slabs. Walrus ivory, pearl, snakewood or ironwood, anybody?

You guys are great thinkers. Yeah, it is possible to add scales. If I were to want to do that I would go down to the hardware store and buy a metal tube to fit one of the holes. Then in the arrowhead area or another of the holes I would take a dremel and make a couple divots that dont go through the handle material and fill that area with epoxt to lock the handle on. Make sense? :)

NO! I have no plans to offer the Bitteroot with handles! :p

Aw, you're no fun! :p

If I can't get genuine Simonich scales for mine I'll just bolt on a spare Becker grip. ;)
