Okay - folks, I have heard your thoughts and suggestions and have narrowed it down to these four. I have now found sources for all 4 of them and need your help in making this decision. Before, I was unaware of a source for the Bitterroot, but I have now found one available, and need your help in making a decision fairly soon.

Knife and Price and Pic:

Simonich Bitterroot: $64 shipped
Ranger Littlebird: $45 + shipping
Nemesis Hellion$49 + shipping
TOPS Wolf Pup: $55 + shipping

Please advise me. For those of you who did not read my previous post, this knife will ride securely upside on my new Maxpedition Pygmy Falcon backpack as a small utility fixed blade needing to be fairly sheeple friendly.

Thank you!
David

Bitterroot. Very cool looking little knife, and a good way to show tribute to a great knifemaker.

My first choice would be a Bitterroot followed by the Hellion.

What a beautiful, handy little sucker that Little Bird looks!!! I'd go for that one! That's just me talkin from looks though. Haven't had any xp.

I'm going to suggest none of the above,
I'm extremely happy with my Bark River Mini-Canadian.
that's my vote.
Unless you want to get the talonite bitteroot.
Also, pay close attention to blade length,
they are tiny!

Definitely go for the Bitteroot. I think it will do the job for you at least as well as the any of the others and it is as unobtrusive as can be. Besides, they are hard to find. Get it while you can.

If it doesn't work out, you can recover enough of the cost to buy one of the others later. It will sell very fast.

The Hellion would work out almost as well as the Bitteroot. I don't particularly care for the looks of the TOPS. I am strongly tempted by the Little Bird myself -- if I can only think of a niche it would fill :D

I'd say the Bitteroot, myself.

I'd agree on a BRK&T knife, except that you would need to add an additional kydex sheath to do any special mounting. It comes with a functional, but standard, leather sheath. It may push it out of your price range, but they are indeed excellent. You could get the mikro or mini, they are both easily happy size.

Buy the Little Bird. Justin at Ranger Knives is an excellent knife maker, and a great guy. I got an RD7 last month, am waiting for a custom RD6 to arrive, and will probably buy a Little Bird in February.

I had and sold a Bitteroot and just got a Hellion. I would go with the Bitteroot I think the larger handle makes it more usable. Larry

i'd say get the bitteroot and put it in the vault.

then get the little bird to use and abuse!

I have both the TOPS wolf pup and the Simonich Bitter Root and like each of them for different reasons. The wolf pup is a small knife but heavy for me as a neck knife, the Bitter Root is a handy neck or key-chain (my EDC) knife but not as useable as a tool. The TOPS "Sneaky Pete Mini" (SPM-01) is a good cross between the two and comes in 154-CM. You might also look at Trace Rinaldi's "Lil' Loco" in S30V, very small but still useable as a utility and self defense knife. www.shivworks.com/loco.asp ;)

David,

For that price range, and since it doesn't need to be concealable, (OK to me 4" overall length in a knife is BIG :) ) the Hellion looks like it offers the a lot.

The Bitterroot would be next if the Hellion is too long (or are they similar in length - from the pics the Hellion looks bigger). And of course it's Rob's knife and I'd want to own a knife of Robs if I didn't already.

In your other post, you specified skeletal.

If that's no longer a priority, the Ranger LittleBird looks really cute. That's the one I would go for of them all if I were getting it for me with your criteria. Because... I have long fingers. Small skeletal knives that have a conventional small skeletal handle are hard for me to hold on to without my fingernails digging into my palm and preventing a good grip around a small skeletal handle in my palm.

I'd say the Bitterroot. Of course i'd be tempted to add a suggestion for a Gene Ingram Naked Pocket Knife. Have one, and it is about the best thing for anything. Not much help, but that's what I'd say.

Sincerely,
Anthony

I wear a Bitteroot every day. It is a surprisingly capable knife and the grip really works.

Well, I decided on the Simonich Bitterrot. $60 shipped is pretty good, too. Don't you think? I will let ya'll know what I think of my/our decision once i get it and mount in the pack.

Thanks for your help.
