Hi, I am a custom knife maker in Montana. I have been asked to make a thrower. This is my first one and was wondering were the balance should be to throw from the handle? Heavy to the blade or to the handle? Thank you for your time. Tom

hey tom,
i am not a knife maker but i have been throwing knives for a lil while now. As to your question; if you are planning on making a knife that is designed to be thrown by the handle, the knife will be heavy to the blade. The balancing point should be the overall center or up to one inch back of the center. Good luck.

you probably know this as a maker, but anyway, here's some advice:

- take low carbon steel
- give it a spring temper
- leave the edges rounded/dull
- you just need the edge bevel - no grinding neccessary, it just weakens the blade
- make it pointy :)
