For those that read my last post about ideas for kayaking...
(sorry no pics, the humidity surely would have destroyed the camera anyway)
I went for a 20 mile kayak trip down the Brazos River in TX last weekend. Took 3 days and 2 nights. I went with 2 other friends and I ALWAYS start the fire as I am known as the "fireman" of camping. We had 50 mph wind gusts this weekend so I had to get creative with the fire and my BK-09.
First, I used the BK-09 to dig a large deep hole. I had to cut through many roots for this. Next, I had to cut many long branches for a wind break over this hole. This took about 15 two feet logs. Then, I had to cut all the firewood with the BK-09. I cut nothing but Mesquite (in TX, tree is considered a weed that grows into trees--everyone hates it so I didn't feel bad cutting live Mesquite trees down). Mesquite wood is VERY hard. I cut about 50 logs or so ranging from 1" to 5" in diameter with NO problems. I was very impressed that the BK-09 kept its edge. Never had to sharpen the blade.
Being that we stayed for two nights in two different places, the process was done twice over. Glad I had that knife with me. Got down to 32F the first night!!
Money spent on a BK-09 is money WELL SPENT. Thanks for reading and thanks to Mr. Becker for designing this perfectly made knife!
