I've been itching to start mod'ing but was a little hesitant, especially on a brand-new knife. Been reading all the other mod posts, learning as much as I could and finally stumbled across this BK-10 at a give-away price and decided to make this my project knife. It's a user and plenty rough and actually looks better in the picture.

Since it was already stripped, it saved me some time. First task, round off the spine at the clip point. Then clean up the rest of the spine, the jimping, and tang edges. Not having a belt grinder, Dex recommended I use diamond files and an oscillating spindle sander in the woodshop of the Woodworking Club I belong to. Worked great.

Didn't care for the mirror-like finish nor the coarse satin finish from the 80 grit, so I ran it all over with a 120 grit sleeve. Still a little coarser than it appears. Might do it again with 220.

Also ground off the forward finger guard to match the profile of the scales and diamond files to blend it in with the sharpening choil. Since it was such a small area, I monitored the steel temp really close, and quenched with water. 30 seconds of grinding, 30 seconds in water.

I still need to work on the blade's finish. And I'm going to try and restore the 'BK-10' and 'BK&T' logos and etch them in.
