Dang! I'll take both

I really like the 10 and the 12. Nice comparison pics. What is your preference since you have worked a lot with both blades? One better at certain tasks than the other, dexwithers?
Well I have all the beckers and the bk12 was always my go to knife. I always figured that in a SHTF situation and if I could only take one knife, the Bk12 would be it. She does it all. The spear/drop point shape would also be great for fighting if it came down to it. The point is great for making holes in wood for stuff like bow drills and such. It is a big knife but really doesn't feel to big. Feels great in the hand and has awesome balance. Also comes with balancing brass weights you can install. Not with micarta unless the scales are modified.
Now the Bk-10 is a new favorite. Right up there with the bk12. Similar knife but just a little shorter which really does feel different. The blade shape is different also. The 10 has a quick upsweep which I didn't think I would like, but surprisingly it works rather well. I am gonna do an update to my Bk-10 thread with more details and pictures about the 10 hopefully this weekend.
Some things I don't like about the 10 is the clip point swedge thingy. That is why I removed it. It works a lot better for my needs now and visually it is more appealing to me without it. I also don't like the swedge for batoning. Digs in deep and ruins the baton quickly.
The 12 has a great spine for beating on.
And the little extra length allows for larger wood to be split.
The 10 is also able to be carried in public here where I live since it is 5.5 inches or less. The 12 is larger than that. Right at 6 inches I believe. I know that seems like a big knife to EDC, but I like having a large blade sometimes and have been carrying my 10 on my belt more and more. I haven't gotten any strange looks either.
But some days it's something smaller, like today was just the Esee Candiru.
I need to do a little more testing but they seem to chop almost equal. 12 just a hair better but probably not enough to really notice.
Let's say you needed to skin something like a deer, I feel that the 10 would be better suited than the 12 because of length and blade shape. Just my opinion.
The grind on the 12 is a lot higher up than the 10 but the blade has a lot of meat at the edge since the secondary bevel is much steeper. I will try and prove that this weekend with some calipers, maybe. Lol
Also Rowens fit and finish is amazing. Heat treat as well. And if you strip the blade, there will not be one grind mark to buff out. And it's stonewashed under the coating, I think, so it looks awesome without a patina. Less work for sure if your gonna be stripping the blade.
The bk10 wins in the price category tho.
For the money of a 12 you could get a 10 with micarta and almost afford an 11 or 14 to pair up with it. So I know that's why some guys haven't gotten one yet, but I think it is worth the extra coin for the 12. And Rowen has a no questions asked warranty. But I have never seen Ka-bar not replace a knife so both are probably equal, just Rowens warranty is in writing. Lol.
And maybe check the exchange cause I got two 12's from there. Both were never used and came with micarta for under what just the knife would have cost new.
So it's a very tough call.
On a side note, I would pick the 10 or 12 over the 2 and 7 for sure.
Both are way easier to use.
I have really enjoyed using the 10 lately and the little extra length on the 12 isn't really that important to me.
So my opinion is kinda right on the fence. Stock blade to stock blade I say bk12. If you do the mod to the swedge on the 10, then it is a lot harder to pick one or the other as a better blade.
I find myself grabbing the 10 more often but I think some of the reason is cause it's still kind of new to me. Only time will tell. Right now I will just keep rotating them out until one proves as better.
Hope that helped you more than confuse you. Lol. Really you do just need to get both. Haha
