I'd get one for sure. I own a Camillus BK 10, but I was able to snatch it up just as Camillus was going out of business and I've never carried it or used it due to the fact that it would be hard to get another one if I damaged or lost mine. I've thought about getting a Ka-Bar made Campanion, but I liked the thinner blade and extended tang ( the way it protruded out beyond the handles to form a pommel to smash and hammer with) of the Crewman. So I keep putting off getting a Campanion because I'm hoping and waiting for a Crewman. I'm not going to be able to wait much longer if I keep watching youtube videos of people using their Campanions.
Give in, melt, and get the BK-2 Campanion you'll be glad you did. You need more than one Becker, anyway.
I've got a Ka-Bar made BK-9 and one Becker Necker made by Camillus and another Necker made by Ka-Bar. What I want is a Becker in the 5 inch range than is light enough to carry on long hikes, and I think a Crewman would be better than a Campanion because the Crewman would probably be lighter. I did, however, like the Campanion's molded plastic (kydex, maybe?) sheath when I handled one recently. You're probably right. I'll end up getting a Campanion, and the second I mention recently buying one on here, someone at Ka-Bar will hit the "go" button on producing a new Crewman. Then I'll be kicking my own butt. Yep, that's what would happen. That's my luck. You could all have new Ka-Bar made Crewmans (would plural be Crewmen?) tomorrow if I just went and bought a Campanion today. Even then, though, I'm sure I could sell or trade the Campanion off to help purchase a Crewman.
I'm with Bladite: for serious get-down-to-it bush trips, the BK-2 Campanion is the way to go. It's one of the most versatile knives of its size around, and it won't break the bank. I think you're pretty safe here, melt: if Ka-Bar starts producing the BK-10 within two months, I'll buy your BK-2 from you.
I think the BK-2 is a must have knife. I'd like to try one of the new Condor Bushlore's with it for a smaller little blade, since Ethan has ignored my begging, pleading and whining (and some gratuitous whimpering thrown in, too) for a 4 inch Becker.
Going through my knife safe a month or so ago, I found a second new-in-the-box Becker BK-10. With it, a new Swamp Rat Bandicoot and I have no idea where either of these knives come from (had to be in with a large trade deal of some sort). I try to keep my personal inventory list accurate when possible but I evidently slipped on these two.
The BK-10 (this one anyway) has a 5-1/2" blade, about 1-5/8" wide, and it has a 3/16" spine. The OAL is close to 11". These knives cut real well and are easy to maintain because of the thinner 3/16" stock. Myself, I prefer the BK-10 over the BK-2 because of its lighter weight (doesn't feel like a boat anchor). If one could possibly damage the BK-10, I would suggest they look at something other than cutlery to serve their needs.
I did a mini-review on a private forum on one of the new Condor's - shown here with the recently found BK-10 for size comparison.
