Hey everyone,
Today I was in class and drew what I think is the perfect neck knife!
It's got a bottle opener like the BK11 and and thumb jimping for some added control

Has anyone done anything along the lines like this to their Becker Necker?
I know someone did the bottle opener to a BK7 in the franken becker mod-off
Can anyone do something like this, or could some tell or show me how to do this?

While we are discussing this topic,
why don't we all share what we did to our BK 11/14
and a brief explanation on how you did it
with pictures please

Thanks in advance,

Looks cool, the only problem i foresee is with the direction of the bottle opener it will cut into the cap of the beer. Or dull your blade in the section. I think it needs to be facing the other way. I have always wondered if it is possible to incorporate one into the loop/hole at the end. that would be a cool mod.

I did that in my first drawing,
It looks kinda weird, but I'm not sure where it went to
If I find it I will post a pick,
I will work on the direction of the bottle opener
Thanks,

Exactly what I was thinking! Pretty cool though. Maybe a bottle opener shaped loop at the end? I always have a few bottle openers on me, but it's good to have back-ups.

You can do the bottle opener, but it takes a fair amount of space in a small knife. I'd keep it facing forward or it will bite your hand. Yes, you will lose a little bit of edge, but that's fine. You do this kind of thing with one flat and one chainsaw file of appropriate size. Easy enough if you're patient. If I recall correctly, I used the rear of the edge as the hook and the guard as the fulcrum because this would let the knife blade tip away from the bottle instead of into it, both giving you the movement you need and protecting the edge from banging into the glass.

For reference: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...cial-FrankenBecker-Mod-Off-(here-we-go)/page7

Personally I'd put the jimping further forward on the spine, unless you have tiny hands. Again, files. A triangular file will let you do sharp jimping like that, or a small chainsaw (round) file will let you do little half-circles, as you prefer.

I'm skipping the picture request 'cause all I've done is give it leather scales.

Absolutely, i used a dremel to do this. It took less than five minutes. It works great

Wow! That looks great,
What did you use to strip it,
I'm interested in stripping my 14
but I'm worried it won't look good with the Esee micarta scales,
if anyone has done this,
could you post a picture please!

True man, I sometimes wish I'd moved my jimping more forward to the end of the tip. I did mine with a triangular jewlers' file.

I've had poor results with dremels and knives, but that seems like an appropriate use. What bit did you use?
The dremel can heat up the steel pretty fast, so I'd keep it away from the edge (proposed bottle-opener area). On the spine, no problem at all. you'll never get it to heat far enough to cause trouble where it counts.

Thanks, I used kleen strip foaming spray. It worked pretty good on the blade, but not the handle. I had to sand everything off of the handle. The rest of the pics are here.

I have done a "rough sketch" of what I want to do to my 11. I haven't started working on it yet. I want to do the jimping, but I also want to make it more of a clip point and add serrations to the top.

Another bottle opener option would be something like the HEST. I'd be concerned about blade strength if you modify the BK14 too much.

I'm not sure, I would have to look when I get home from work in the morning.
