I was lucky a few days ago and was able to buy one on Kabar's clearance sale . Got it Saterday , I was wondering how San Mai holds up compared to 1095 ? This thing is WICKED SHARP but it's to kool of a knife for me to find out .

I don't recall what the San Mai is made out of, and I don't really remember any specific comparisons between the San Mai and normal 1095cv versions, so I'm not much help there :/.

I'd thought they'd run out of the San Mai versions a few years ago though (like, I thought they were all gone 2-4 years ago IIRC), so I'm somewhat surprised that they had any listed.

And to post pictures you have to get them hosted somewhere else (imgur, imageshack, photobucket, etc). Then in your post take the actual link to the image you now have hosted, and wrap it in
tags. Something like this ["img]http://thisisafakelink.com/to_use_as_an_example.jpg[/"img].

^^but remove the quotes in the img tags. I had to put them in to show the "code" rather than have the forum try to make my fake link an image.

I thought the same as you about the 11 csm . And roll stamped 4s . Kabar must of lifted the carpet and found some . I also got luckey with the 4 as well , in fact I went to their site looking for another roll stamped 4 saw CSM got it . Thanks for the info. on the pics it's over my head but I will post the pics as soon as poss. Thanks

Yep, that must be what happened. Found a few boxes stacked somewhere and went "I thought we got rid of all of these already". Good luck for you though :).

The photos aren't super complicated once you get it sorted out, but I can understand its intimidating at first.

You just need to go to one of those image hosting services, usually creating an account. Then, upload your photos from your computer into your account. Then, you can click on the link and it will give you URLs (links) to the images. After you get that link, you just wrap them in the tags like I showed above.

Here is an image of mine. If you click "reply with quote" to this post and then go to edit it, you can see what I mean about the [img] tags and the link to the image in between them.

Good luck, and congrats on the "new" steel :).

The San Mai 11 is a little thicker than the 1095 one. So the 1095 is more of a slicer.

As far as the edge goes, I am able to get my 1095 versions a little sharper I think. I did have some problems with my user San Mai when I first got it, the edge was kinda flaky or something? Not sure how to describe it. Maybe more brittle is the word. But after I reprofiled and sharpened it a few times, it seems to be holding up just fine.

For a user to beat on heavily, I'd stick with the 1095. If you are just cutting and slicing, the San Mai will be fine.

They do look bad ass.

Whoa... at first I was all sad for the bottom CSMs edge... then I looked a bit closer, and realized it was a 'chop photo, so it makes more sense :).

But interesting, i didn't know that the CSM's were thicker.

Thanks Dex the for insight . I also think the 1095 will take more abuse , but the edge this thing came with is off the chart ! They do have a KOOL FACTER . THANK'S ALL

hitachi blue steel sammich with stainless? iirc

I thought I remembered there was an issue with uneven grinds on the San Mai models. Something about the way they came to Kabar from the supplier or something...Am i just making that up?

Edit to add: even if I am right, I'd still want one. Uneven grinds can be fixed, but layered steel is always cool.
