Finally tried my hand at removing coating. Came out okay I think but still need to work on it. Used sand paper (several different grits) and it took a long time. Just wanted to share and see what you guys think.

Gets some 600 will give a really nice almost rought finish will go good with the looks of therope and the finish still on handle.

Bout time you did something other than sharpen your knives badly. :D

Looks good Major. The auto parts store here in town up above Papa John's has all kinds of sandpaper grits and they sell by the sheet so you don't have to buy whole packs.

Very nice, and it does take a while to sand out the tooling marks by hand, I was torn on stripping he whole knife or just the blade on mine (ended up doing the whole thing because I'm ocd like that lol) but its a little hard to keep it from rusting when you have it wrapped, (which is why I have my 14 leather chord wrapped so I can oil the bejesus out of it). I'd hang on to the handle coating if you're going with synthetics.

Didn't think about that. I thought about the entire knife but it was a lot of work just to do the blade. I think I might just keep it with the coating on the handle.

If you need to strip any more coatings, try Klean Strip. You can get it at major do it yourself stores (the one with the orange logo usually stocks the small aerosol can) and it will make short work of the coatings. I tried it a couple of times and it worked very fast. All I had to do was polish the tool marks out.

I like the sanded off look better than stripped. I'm just too lazy to do it.
