Bk-11 tip sharpness

I had a Camillus Becker Necker and the tip was extremely thick and dull, so I decided to sell it.

Now, I know that everyone seems to love the BK-11 so, did I just get a bad one?

I can't say but here is mine. It's plenty pointy enough for my needs.

Izulas have more of a spear point. Have you looked at them?

I have an Izula and it is perfect for me.

The BK-11 I had was nice and pointy but the tip was too dull. The rest of the edge was fine.

I recently purchased the KA-BAR Becker BK11. The blade is razor sharp end to end and perfect for me.

i am not sure, but I think Ethan said the new BK-11's are thinner than the old ones, so the tip may be sharper than it was on the Cam.

They are actually thicker then the old ones but the grind on the new ones goes all the way up for a full taper grind where the Camillus ones had a half grind.

That's right. Now that you mention it I did have it totally backwards.

Just a thought, if you want it "pointier" you could add a small swedge.

I wish my necker was pointier.. but it will do.

Me too for some things. . . But I really like the BK11 as is.

I have two wishes of Ethan Becker, A Mora of Sweden style knife designed by Ethan Becker, and a folder of Ethan Becker design.

In my opinion with a little variation on current designs and offering current and alternate styles Ethan Becker could corner the knife market ; )

If you want a more pointy tip get a Izula.

If you want a more sturdy tip get a BK-11.

With all due respect, I do not feel saying the Izula tip is less sturdy is true at all.
I own both of these and each have great tips, and feel both are on par with each other in being "sturdy". What do you base your less sturdy comment on? Have you tested the tips and found the Izula lacking in some way. Don't get me wrong here but, I am curious.

I dont recall rmc saying the izula tip wasnt sturdy, but here's my experience...

I have stuck my Izula in a few trees, and the Necker in a few trees as well. The tip on my Izula rolled slightly, my BK11 did not. Nothing I couldnt sharpen out, but Thats what happened to me.

If one is more sturdy, the other must be less sturdy. Again not being difficult here but just curious why & what experience he had with both knives to claim one was more sturdy than the other.

The KA-BAR Becker BK11 and RAT IZULA seem to be made of similar materials from what I read. I looked at both when searching for a neck knife design and choose the KA-BAR Becker BK11 for price and value as the KA-BAR BECKER is about $10 less even at wholesale.

I really like the KA-BAR Ethan Becker knives a lot even enough to buy two of the BK2 and BK11 so as to not be without it for a long time.

I can find no fault in the KA-BAR Ethan Becker BK11, its razor sharp from one end to the other and pointed enough and strong enough for all tasks applied to date.

I base it off the fact that I bent my Izula tip slightly doing the same stuff I have with the BK11. I'm not saying the Izula isn't a good knife by any means. I LOVE my Izula....but IMHO the BK11 is a little tougher. I can have an opinion just like you can.

Go look up the specs and you will see the BK11 is thicker than the Izula. I also noticed that the blade shape on the BK11 is similar to the new blade on the Spyderco Police3. The president of Spyderco said they made the blade shape change on the Police3 to have a stronger tip.

RAT makes great stuff and I'm not knocking them at all. I carry my Izula with me pretty often because its a amazing knife.

Do you have both knives? I do and I use them both.

See the post you quoted...I do.
They are both great, small neck/edc pocket knives. I was just curious why you stated your opinion that the BK11 has a "more sturdy tip"? I just disagree in the end, no big deal.

I own the BK-11 san mai and I'm pretty pleased with it but it has to be said that the tip isn't very sharp (as in sharp for stabbing) but it's perfectly fine for cutting.

However if comparing the Izula and the 1095 BK-11 just on geometry (tip area to be precise) then it is highly likely that the Izula's tip will be less sturdy compared to the BK-11's tip. I'll grab an izual in the future to compare more.

I 'need' the izula for it's theoretical improvement in the stabbing dept since I use my blades to open cardboard boxes a lot and a better stabber would be nice.
