BK 11 vs BK 14

So, I was having quite a chat with Derek last night in his chat
and he did a good job explaining his opinion why i should get a 14 even though I have the necker already.

so before i royally piss off "She who must be obeyed" and order a new knife that i really should buy right now, I wondering about the other side side of the fence

where are the necker fans who prefer the 11 over the 14
and why?

What i can tell is the 14 has a 1/4" longer handle and a nicer sheath
the 11 has the wire breaker and the bottle cap opener, thats basically the difference as far as i can tell...

ok ok the 14 fans can chime in too even though my wallet wont thank you for it :p
 
I wish I would have gotten the 14. Don't get me wrong I love my 11, it's my EDC but I have larger hands (1/4" would of helped) gave up drinking, and usually have a leatherman on me. I was just riding a "new Becker" high after buying my BK2 so I grabbed the 11 the next day. If I have some spare $$ some day after I get a BK9 AND a BK5 (when ever that might be) I'll get a 14.
 
I just picked up a 14 the other day. I already had the 11 but I use them for two different purposes. I EDC the 14, it actually fits nice in my back pocket. The 11 I set up with a ranger band rigged survival kit on it, makes it a little big to neck or pocket. This is also how I sold it to the wife..she relunctantly understood, would have bought it anyway though.
 
I love my 14, I added the Izula scales and some paracord on the sheath. I carry it quite often. I have lots of other bottle openers, don't need one taking up 1/4" of my handle.

If only it were that easy
unfortunately my wife thinks carrying a knife is "nerdy" for a female. thats her word, not mine
in addition she has said over and over that she doesnt need a knife, she has me *shrugs*
 
The 14 has a rounded index finger hold while the 11 has a sharper angle. The 14 fits my hand naked while the 11 fits better w/ a para wrap. the 14 lets me get all 4 fingers on while the 11 is a 3-finger deal. I like them both, but I am already biased b/c i'm used to the 14.
 
i can just about manage to get 4 finger grip on my 11, its tight though
but you guys are making me wish i had waited for the 14 (and i dont really want to buy another knife right now)

i am considering ordering micarta scales for the 11, wonder if it helps the feel/grip of the necker
anyone got the micarta scales yet and what thoughts do ya'll have on them?
 
Just get the 14, and which ever one you end up not liking all that much you can just send it to me. :D

I have both and they both have their own little place in my world. I EDC my 14, which stays razor sharp for random cutting I might need to do, and I keep my 11 with my BOB.

well, she's made it easy :) if she needs something cut, tell her to use her knife ;) that ain't your job ;) it's too nerdy for a guy to do that for his gal ;)

however, she has sent a clear message you must carry her knife for her. so, you need a knife for yourself :)
 
im on the rare side of opinion, i acually like the 11 better, i traded my 11 for a 14 and now after a few months i kinda miss the 11 the 14 feels to thin or something to me, like holding a stick tang that losts it handle or somthing
 
lol so really folks just REALLLLLLY like that extra 1/4 inch on the handle

well, despite this post, i am gonna stick with my 11 and probably get scales and do some personalizing of it
then in the future (as in, when i get some $$) i may pick up a 14 if i am still wanting it....of course before that happens you folks will have me convinced i need a BK2 or BK7/9/10 before the 14 anyways lol
 
I enjoy my 11 and the thought of owning a 14 never crossed my mind.

I like the way the 11 looks over the 14 and plus it's an awesome knife so why make it jealous with another little rival?;)
 
I have or have had several of each. I hoard the 14's and give away the 11's. Not that I don't like the 11 cause I do. It just seems like a classic knife to get folks started.
 
Next time you want to give away an 11 keep me in mind lol.

Just compromise and get a 13.
 
larger & more comfortable handles on the 14 -- more comfortable = more likely to be carried/used.
and when you "go gold" you get a free remora - which is a perfect gift for the wife.
what else did you need to know?
