Just ordered a Becker BK-13 Remora knife the other day and just wanted to get some opinions on the knife. How have your expierences been with the knife, and even if you don't have the knife what are your initial impressions of it? Thanks guys.

I have 2 of them(one came with my 9) they're cool little knives for smaller tasks. I keep one in with my fire kit at all times.

It's small and disappears in the pocket. You can sharpen that thing up like a scalpel...which the scar on my leg can attest to...

For an inexpensive neck knife in the 2" blade range, I'd go with a CRKT Minimalist or Condor neck knife. Boker and Buck also have a few knives in that size/price. I've never liked the looks of the Remora, the 440A steel isn't the best, and the way the finger guard goes straight down at a 90 degree angle looks uncomfortable. Not that comfort matters much, because you probably won't be doing heavy or prolonged cutting, but even so... there are better options out there.

I totally dig the 13, it's my secondary knife paired with all my fixed blades 7" and up. I believe Defender completed a challenge of building a shelter with nothing but a 13.

My suggestion is make some scales or cord wrap the handle, the sharp edges of the handle can dig after a minute of use.

Thanks for referring to me but it was actually a BK-11 and I used it mostly. Don't think I had a Remora at that time.

The Remora is the underdog that needs more appreciation...I plan on getting another so my son will have one when he is old enough.

I got mine in the mail yesterday and I totally agree. Its a great little knife that seems very capable. I wanted a knife that was small, lightweight, and barely noticeable when carrying it, while still being functional. The bk-13 seems to fit that role very well. I paracord wrapped the handle to make it more comfortable and fill the hand a bit better. Some guys don't like the softer 440A steel but I think I'm going to like the steel on the soft side because I can sharpen the knife easily and put a razor edge on it quick which is how I generally manage smaller knives. Overall it seems like a very high quality knife for the money and I feel like picking up some more.

Do these still come with the 7's & 9's or was that a temporary thing? Seems like it could be a fine blade, but I would have to put some sort of handles on there and re-profile the finger guard if I were going to use it often.

It was a temporary thing. The first batch of remoras they were including for free was a test run made in china . The new ones are made in USA really worth the $20.

Second greatest small knife I own. First being the splinter that daizee made for me. My design and daizee's handy work, so I've got too be a little biased. :D

Seriously though it can do everything you need it to; it just takes a little more time for bigger tasks. Get a few of them.

How about some of you guys showing your handle wrapped Remoras- I want to do the same to mine, and need some ideas of the wrapping process...

I like to wrap about 3/4 of my handle leaving enough room to use the stock sheath. Some people prefer to wrap the full handle and cut part of the sheath to fit.

I'm also considering buying a Remora as a companion to my BK7. Out of curiosity, I tried my MTech MX-8038 (440C Stainless, G10 handle, tanto blade, China), and the entire Kydec sheath fits nicely inside the outer pouch on the BK7 sheath. (The handle is too long to fit in the knife slot of the BK7 sheath.) This would be cheaper alternative ($14 on Amazon). Nobody really asked for that, but I was looking for a more information when I came across this forum.

At 5.25" OAL, the BK13 is a bit small for my taste. I'd have to have the opportunity to get one in hand before I'd consider purchasing one. In fairness, I can't make any other comment about it.

I've EDC'd one for a little bit. Perfect handy little thing for any small task.

The kids also love it for carving because of the size.
