Hey guys, first post on here. I just recently purchased a BK-14 and I am wanting to strip the coating off. I know you do this with paint thinner and a wire brush. i was wondering how you would ensure it from not rusting. What kind of finish should I put on it?
thanks

Well it should be fine with a coat of oil......or you could patina the blade with vinger........and welcome to blade forums!

Whoa!!! I wouldn't use a WIRE brush unless perhaps it's Brass, and you'll want paint Stripper not Thinner. After finish is removed you're gonna see alot of tooling marks, on mine I used my dremal and a stone to smooth out then finished with some fine-grit paper around all outside edges....If you decide to sand the blade go with the direction of grind-marks or it's a PITA-lol. good luck and some pics would be nice of the outcome....Dave

I used paint remover and a gasket scraper tool. My 14 was stone washed under the coating so I just left it that way. After using the knife to cut limes, onions ,oranges ,apples, ect. it developed a patina pretty fast. It did get get some spotting of rust when I forgot to coat it with oil and left it in the sheath for a few days. The rust did wipe off with a little oil .
