So I all ready have the BK2 and BK9. Just got my BK 9 in last week and I have had my BK2 for a couple years. I am now looking to get the BK 16 or 17 and the BK 11 or 14. I am just trying to get a good tweener blade and a small blade along with my 9 for taking out with me. Which ones would some of you recommend? I know I am going to get the BK5 and BK7 soon after..... I'll just face it now, I'm going to end up with the entire line of BK knives soon enough.

The 11/16 is my personal choice.
The 16 because I'm more of a drop point type of guy.
And the 11 with micarta because it feels better in my hand than the 14.

Personally, I'd go with the 17 and 11. That is me though. I'd also drop the 13 in the front sheath of the 9 cause it goes there. Again though, that's just me.

I like the 16 also because of te drop point. I feel it's more practical for me when using around camp or just general bush crafting.

As far as the 11 and 14 go, I have neither. But I do have the 24 which is the d2 version of the 14. I really like the size if the knife. I love the izula and love the blade on the 11. Therefore the 14/24 fits the bill perfect for me. I currently edc my 24. I wish I would have gone with the 14 because I really really love 1095.

so as far as maintenance and general upkeep such as sharpening I should go for the 14? for the 24 I may have to purchase some slightly more aggressive sharpening tools?

I think the 24 being better than the 14 is a moot point. Some might say yes some might say no. I think that the 14 is a better choice as the 1095 is easier to sharpen. And from my experience it can be sharpened on a number if things. I sharpened my izula enough to get cutting again on the back spine of my estwing axe. Wasn't shaving sharp but sharp enough to continue cutting.

The 24 is very hard to sharpen. As with any d2 blade. It holds am edge for a long time. Might not be shavin sharp bit will stay sharp for a long time.

I also find a drop point much more practical, so definitely the 16. As for the smaller blades, the handle of the 14 is slightly longer and offers a better grip (for me-ymmv) are you going to leave them skeletonized, paracord wrap the handle or put some scales on it? if scales, then consider the prices-the 14's scales are less than half the price of the 11's and you get two pairs (orange and black) granted the 11 scales are micarta and the 14s are zytel, the zytel ones feel great and completely transform the 14. --as for the 14 vs 24--personally I like the perfect balance of edge retention and ease of sharpening that 1095 offers-i have heard d2 is harder to sharpen but keeps an edge longer-i don't mind sharpening and I know if I need to sharpen it in the field, it won't be an issue--also look into the scales that kryptoglow (here on bladeforums) makes-i love mine

I say you get a 16 as well. I'm waiting for the day I can order one. Been short on cash lately :(

Btw, I love all my beckers, haven't had a single problem with my 2, 9, 11 or 14. Definitely worth it, whichever you choose.

Another vote for the drop point of the 16. I've had the knife for only about 2 months, but I love it. I find the blade shape very practical for all my outdoors tasks. Haven't pick out a smaller blade yet, I'd opt for the handles of the 14 over the 11. Plan on getting one soon myself to compliment my tweeter.

16 & 24 is my carry.
D2 is not hard to sharpen or touch up with modern diamond and ceramic hones being as low-cost as they are.
plus, Kabar does not go for a 60+ RC, so there are none of the rumored chipping issues.

Thank you for the feedback everyone. I have decided to go with getting the 16 and 14 for my primary carry. However, I know without a doubt that I will be buying the 24 next just to quench that becker addiction lol!! Ill post pics when I get them. Im excited.

Thanks for clarifying this. I guess I should have said hard to sharpen without the proper diamond hones.

My vote is for 16 and 11 as well.

I haven't gotten a ton of use on my 11 yet, but my 16 has been on a few outings and working around the house. Such a great knife after adding micarta and stripping the coating. I actually don't like it very much as it comes from the factory. So interesting how much a couple simple changes completely transforms the knife.

How do you strip the coating? And is there any special treatment you must do to the steel once you strip it?

citrustrip gel and a plastic scraper work well.
after it's stripped, keep it dry and wipe it down with a tuf-glide cloth every so often and you should be good to go.
