BK-17 Sheath Recommendations

I have some questions concerning BK-17 sheaths. While I like the sheath it comes with in terms of being able to mount it to my MOLLE gear, I could use one for belt carry that is a bit more trim. The stock sheath seems to have a couple inches more than it needs to it so that it can be compatible with the BK-15, and have room for grommets. As a run around knife, I am looking for a sheath that takes up less unneeded space and will ride well on my belt. I like what I see at Sky Storm Leather for a belt sheath, but I noticed that the sheaths are listed as for the BK-16/17. So here's my first dumb question: does the BK-17 fit in leather sheaths made for BK-16?

If Skystorm Leatherworks had a short lead time, I'd order theirs today and be good to go. I'm just looking for a sheath that'll ride on my belt. I'd like to not thread my knife onto my gear everytime I put it on or have to unthread it everytime I take it off. (I know...I'm being whiny...) Since I'm looking for a second sheath anyway, I figured I'd get one that will ride on my belt without sticking out too far off the body, since my uniform top (I'm military) hangs over it, and also hopefully has enough "give" to it to not jab too hard into me when I sit down. It'll be mounted at the 2:00-2:30 position on my belt just to the right of the first belt loop to the(my) right of the pant fly, since other gear takes up the 3:00-4:30 position, as well as the 9:00 position(I'm right handed anyway.)

Who all here has ordered an aftermarket sheath for their BK-17? What are recommended options, and how happy have you been with your purchases? I'd use pictures if needed, but taking pictures currently (and for the foreseeable future) isn't an option for me. I honestly appreciate the help, you guys are always great. I figured I'd ask people who actually use their gear enough to steer me in the right direction. Thanks in advance.

Skystorm's sheaths for the BK-16 will fit the 17 with no problems. Kydex sheaths for the 16 will not fit the 17.

If you'd wouldn't mind a quick on/off kydex rig, AZWelke can make you one pretty quick. I think he even has some in stock. He does a good job. The one he made for my 17 is secure and fits the knife perfectly. It will not come out of that thing by accident. The Tek Lok makes it easy to put on or take off.

If you want leather, the Skystorm sheaths really are perfect for the Becker line. I've got three or four of them, and I love 'em all.

Also, if you're looking for some good leather, Psyop does a mean sheath, and I don't think his wait time is super long. He's only been in the sheath making business for what, a year now maybe? So he won't have the backlog Skystorm has. He makes some really rugged, hard use sheaths. They're almost as rigid as kydex. I got one of his first sheaths in a giveaway, and it has been a great bushcraft sheath for my Saber ground 16. The quality of his work has gotten better by the month. http://www.kelleycustoms.com/becker-knife--tool.html

I'll even carry this in town, since it holds the knife up nice and tight against the body and doesn't get in the way while I'm getting in and out of the truck or forklifts or whatever I'm doing.

The stock sheath makes a great backup and leaving it on your pack is a great idea.

Attaching a Kydex sheath directly to a lg. Tek-Lok will be just about the lowest profile without using an IWB sheath but it will jab ya.

If you really want some "give"/flex I'd consider a dangler or a leather belt-loop..... with the dangler you can sit down no problem and while you're wearing your pack it will be out of the way of your pack kidney straps.

All of my "Tweener" sheaths are made to fit directly onto the ESEE-3/4 Molle-Backs and that option would give you the best of both worlds in one sheath:

My turnarounds are a little longer than most unless I have a similar sheath "in stock"... the one in the pic is in stock (for example), and my response times are slower than most with it taking up to 7 days for me to reply sometimes (just being honest).

Hope this helps,

Eli

Wasatchdan-I ended up ordering a sheath from Kelley Customs. Thanks for the imput. I was interested in a leather sheath on my first go round, and it looks like I'll probably have it within a month.
Godspeed Tactical-Didn't see your post! I will keep you in mind for the future. Thank you for replying to my OP. I saw that you make a Machete sheath, I may be looking your way again in the future. :)

I will post again when I get the sheath from Kelley Customs.

Very nice. I think you're really going to like it.

All of these guys make excellent sheaths. They're all good hardworking folks as well. Seeing as how you already made a choice with Psyop, I'd like to 2nd what someone else said, that he does great work. I have 2 Kelley Customs sheaths, one for my 10 and one for my 11, I am very happy with both.

tcarp - he does great work. I think you'll enjoy it.

That's a GREAT looking sheath! I'm excited to take it out and loop it onto my belt for the first time. Psyops, I'd just like to say thanks again. I look forward to putting it to good use, and could not be more grateful.
