Well I had the BK 18 for a short while. YEP, IMO it's one of the better Tweeners due to its high saber grind. The blade profile makes it a well rounded little field knife. A good for piercing tip for poking holes, rounded enough blade for capping and skinning. Small enough blade for field dressing critters.
BUT I got enough blades in that class. It also needs a micarta handle. The nephew who lives with his grand mother on an active small farm didn't have any knives. OR even his own hunting knife. We'll decision made, he got an X-MASS GIFT. He is an apprentice butcher to and helps a lot during large critter cutting season. He was happy when he got it. He knows knives.
I told him to use sports tape on it till he gets micarta handles for it. Told him how to draw it fom the fiberglass sheath to reduce knife dulling. But pointed out how that type of sheath is safer to haul it around for the type of wilderhood type romping the family does.
It should last him a good long time.
Have A happy holidays.
