Just checking out the Becker line at the Camillus website. Anybody here use the BK-2 as a hunting knife? Looks like it basically has a drop point design and would make a good field-dressing knife for deer and larger beasts.

Also wondering why it is so much more expensive than a larger knife like the BK-7. The sheath maybe? I can find the Bk-7 for around $45, but the cheapest BK-2 I've found is about $60.

The Campanion (BK-2) has a thicker blade than the BK-7. That is part of the reason that it has a higher price. They probably make more BK-7 as military survival knives and that may be another reason for it's lower price. I would not pick the BK-2 as a hunting knife since the thick blade is a liability for skinning and gutting operations. If you want a Camillus/Becker for that purpose I would look at the BK-101 (Crewman) model. It has the thinner blade of the BK-7 with a reasonably short blade length like the BK-2. I would also look at some of the Western line or other Camillus hunting knives.

Aint no way I'd use a Campanion for hunting. I s'pose it would get the job done, but it's NOT the preferred means. It's a big, thick, unwieldy, indestructable axe, cleverly disguised as a drop point knife. Things probably more expensive cuz it's got twice as much steel as a BK-7!

If you want a Becker for hunting, I'd look towards the BK-11. The blade is a wee smidgen short, but I've seen tons of moose, caribou, and bear cleaned with knives that size.

I like my BK2 and carry it afield alot. It is not specifically designed for field dressing but it will get the job done. It is too thick for skinning though and haven't tried that yet, I'll leave that to a thin "skinning" knife. I would have to reccommend the BK11 out of the Becker line up as a better choice, I personnally don't care for the BK10 but if you can put it in your hand maybe you'll like it.
