Been wanting to try some kinda pattern on some of my scales to give it a bit more character and a more unique feel but never really had the b@lls to...I guess with some things you just have to jump in and see what happens...

Posting this up cos I'm not really 100% happy with it and would really like to hear what some of you guys think.

Not sure why you're not happy. Looks great to me. :)

I like the colors and the effects and the grooves would seem to lend themselves to being quite grippy. From the pics, it seems like really nice job.

I think it looks great. Be proud of your work, or donate it to me and I'll do some "market testing" for you :D

Niiiiice. Well done, Cam. I've been aching to do this with some of my knives, but haven't managed to screw my courage to the sticking place yet. I'm planning to make myself a few new sets of scales for some other knives, primarily a couple of folders, so I'll be starting there with my grooved scales before I start in with the Beckers.

Awesome!
Not sure what your not happy with, looks great to me.
Good job.

x2 !!!

I guess it looks kinda uneven. All the Anso patterns (If this even qualifies for that) I've seen people do look almost machine done and the grooves seem to lock into each other a lot more.

Id really like a set of micarta done that way. Pm me if you've got an extra set and are willing to give me a price on doing them?

Thanks guys (and girl) :)! I appreciate the kind words...

Those look great!

If you really don't like them you can send them to me!

Trade you for some kydex :D?

Sorry man, don't have the right membership. Also, unless its what you're going for, micarta might not have as striking a contrast either.

Why, why would you do that to a perfectly good set of G10?!

JK ;) those look sweet. makes me want G10 even more now.

Does not look good, send them to me for proper disposal. JK looks great, I need to get a BK 2!:D

I've always liked handles done like that and I think yours turned out great!

What method did you use? I've heard some people use a tapered stone bit in the Dremel, some use just a barrel sander bit, some guys even use round files.

Actually, they were never a good set since the grooves were the original pattern and not me dremeling the grooves over an existing pair of scales :D.

You're correct, I used a 1/2" drum sander.
