If you're like me and find the handle on the BK2 a little too smooth and slippery, but you can't or won't come off the hip for a set of micartas, you may want to consider stippleing the handle. The handle on the BK models is plastic with a fancy name and will stipple quite easily. I used a cheap wood burner that I had bought from Lowe's, and a medium point tip. You want to tap the handle with the wood burner tip createing small dimples as you work. Use a fast tapping motion and overlap the pattern as you go. It took me, roughly, two hours to do the complete handle. When you're finished, you may find that the handle will have some sharp points. Take some fine grit sand paper and buff down the sharp edges until you get it to your likeing. Remember, if you decide to do this, it's permanent, so you may want to practice with a peice of plastic you don't want to help decide which tip you want to use and get your technique down pat. For me, this has really helped me keep a firm grip on my knife.

Yeah the handles are a bit smooth but overall I think they're about the most comfortable handles around when it comes to production knives.

Good work..........................2hrs though, thats dedication for you :).

That... is... AWESOME!!

btw.. is that the sheath from ridgeknifeshop.com? If it is.. how do you like it?

Wow!! One of the reasons I didn't buy the Becker and bought another knife was the slick scales. The handles were really comfortable, but I could see them in my sweaty hands sliding all over the place.

That is some really nice work! I amazed you kept the pattern so consistent.

The sheath is from Chestnut Ridge Knife Shop. The handle will have sharp points and probably not be comfortable when you first finish. You can make it as grippy as you like by using some fine grit sand paper and sanding down the handles to your likeing.

One more thing about Chestnut Ridge Knife Shop. Their prices are probably some of the lowest, but their customer service is the best. I ordered both the BK2 and the sheath from them, but at different times. The knife was shipped the same day I placed the order. They received the order at 12:58 pm and it was shipped to me at 2:03 pm the samde day. I ordered the sheath in OD green and it took a few days because they make each one there. I'm not a big fan of OD green, so i called a couple of days after I had placed the order to see if they came in black. They told me they had just finished my original order in green but it would be no problem to change it to black and I had it a few days later. Check these people out next time you're looking.

I couldn't agree more. When I had a problem with the knife I received from Tom, I called him. Because the scales were off, but the grinds were perfect on both sides, the sheath was perfect, and since this is a limited availability knife I decided to keep it and see if I could get replacement scales. I called the factory, and he called the factory with me to make sure they were following up after giving me a chance to return it to him!

I am purchasing again from Tom on Monday.

Probably would, but I just like the wood burner I have because it's small and I can change the tips.

Thanks for the photos ahiredgun, I just ordered a BK2 and you gave me some good ideas.
