So I went ahead and bought this knife about a month ago as I've been wanting a general purpose camping knife. I was really surprised by the value of this thing. The first time someone recommended it to me and I looked it over, I was sure it was going to be in the $100-150 range. I didn't get much use of it for awhile, but I eventually took it over to a friends, where we messed around building a huge fire out back. I batoned through some wood about 5 inches in diameter and was very surprised by it's splitting abilities, but disappointed by its losing the hairpopping edge so quickly. It took me a bit of experimenting to figure out how to put a hairpopping edge back on it (I'm not used to sharpening such thick knives I guess).

About a week ago, we had to chop down a cherry tree that was starting to get too close to the power lines and I finally got to test out the knife with it's newly polished edge. Our neighbor took down large branches with a chainsaw, but I still had to hack it into smaller portions to either drag into the backyard or fit into the debris can. The bk-2 did a great job despite being so small and still shaved hair afterward.

Today, I decided to see how it did for more delicate chores. I took one of branches, maybe 4 inches in diameter, batoned it in half, then carved a spoon out of it using just the BK-2. It came out pretty well. And of course, the knife still went through hair like butter afterward.

To sum it all up, I'm incredibly happy with this knife. I'm glad that I can rely on it to do everything from chopping/batoning wood to more delicate camp craft like carving utensils - Not to mention that it still shaved hair afterward! You truly designed a great knife Mr. Becker!

Of course this mini-review is useless without pictures. Sorry that they're retrospective - I didn't think of documenting the work until after I finished :(

Great pics and review! I had to pick up my BK2 and play with it when I saw this thread.

That spoon is amazing! I dont think the spoons I buy at the store are that nice.

I really enjoyed reading your review! RMC's right, that spoon is outstanding, I'm gonna have to try that.

Thanks guys! I was rather surprised myself... it's only the 2nd thing I've actually carved (not counting the addition of sharp points to sticks of course ;)). Growing up in a rural town in the Philippines (I moved to the US when I was 8), I used to follow my grandfather around and watch his every move. He was a farmer/carpenter, so I guess I must have picked up a few things :o

All that aside, I really love this knife! I was a bit afraid that the BK-2 would be a bad compromise: unable to do the delicate work of a smaller knife and unable to do the heavy tasks of a larger knife. What I found instead was a knife that could perform a wide spectrum of chores quite well. It's a very versatile design, and that's what you really want in a survival/camping knife!

Thanks for the nice review. The BK-2 is my go-to knife for just the reasons you've outlined: it does it all, and does it pretty well, too. I like the spoon, too. Now I suppose I'll have to try one with my BK-2, and hope I can make one nearly as nice.

Thanks for the pics! You did a great job on that spoon, I have a hard time even with a thin scandi sometimes!
