Hey guys just received my BK 2 and absolutely love it! Props to Mr. Ethan Becker! Haha.
I was wondering how to take a care of the knife though, I'm fairly to new to the forum.

Basically, say I use it cutting a wet piece of wood, wipe it off, and apply hoppes 9. Am I done? I'm just wondering what else I need to do to take care my knife.

Any info or advice is always appreciated! Thanks!

Is it stripped? Does it still have it's coating? If it isn't stripped I'd say swap out the hardware on the handle for stainless steel screws and just make sure you keep it sharp and wipe it down after using.

Personally, I wipe with vegetable oil just cause I use so many of my knives for food and I'm not sure if Hoppes 9 is edible.

What's wrong with eating Hoppe's #9? I see no side...oh look! A squirrel!

I like to wipe mine down and put a thin coat of veg oil or mineral oil on the blade. So far, it's stayed rust free.

So far the factory edge has held up good enough for just about any use without having to coat with something. Mineral oil has been popular with beckers. I have used rem-oil on mine! It adds seasoning!

Chameleon it still has its coating! Is there a specific type of vegetable oil? Haha like I say I'm a noob!

Haha! I won't be eating hoppes 9 then!

Any oil is fine. It's just to provide a layer of protection from moisture, and food-safe oil is used if you think you'll use it for any sort of food prep. I just wipe on whatever is in the pantry. I even used some stupid expensive truffle olive oil once...don't tell my wife..but it's awful stuff.

If it won't be used for any food prep, I like to use CLP.

Like everyone said...

I just use a real thin coat of extra virgin olive oil (no reason other than thats what I have). For the hardware (bolts), I just make sure they are dry after cleaning the knife. I try to really get down in there with a towel. Also, every now and then I will rub a cotton swab of oil down in there. The bolts are the only area I've ever found any rust on my BK-2. For the edge, just keep the thin coat of oil and keep it clean. If you get any rust on there, a quick swipe or two on a sharpening stone should fix that (if you catch it early). As you use it, some of the coating may come off the blade. (Its okay, it makes the knife look MEAN!) Again, with this exposed steel just keep the thin layer of oil on there.

This comes from one noob to another. I've gathered this from all the guys around here. My BK-2 is the only Becker I own/can afford. Also, its my first non-stainless steel knife.

If it still has coating on it all you really have to do is oil the edge.

Also, we want to see a picture of your new Becker. Thats just how things work around here. :)

Sure. We have seen lots of Beckers, but that doesn't mean we don't want to keep seeing more different and new Beckers. I guess Beckers are kinda like... Well, you know.

Thanks a lot guys, this has been very helpful! And I will get pics up as soon as I get the chance!

And nice last comment. :)

Vangaurd, welcome and congrats on one of the baddest knives in the biz!
Olive oil on mine. I use it for food prep sometimes.
