Hey Beckerheads, I just ordered my first Becker knife, a BK-2.

Based on the reviews I have read, it looks like the sheath is the first thing to change/mod. After that I heard the scales are the next best investment. It seems there are loads of posts to go through and I will go through as many as I can, but I have one question?

Does anyone know if someone makes a canvas micarta scale with a bow drill divot for the BK-2, just like on the ESEE-5?

Ciao for now!

Welcome to Bladeforums, and the Becker forum, glad you joined up.

To answer you question, the answer is yes. You can do it yourself. Get you some micarta handles from Kabar, decide where you want it, get you a 1/2" drill bit and a drill press, and put your divot where you want it. I would only go perhaps 3-4 mm in depth at the most, and it will be just about perfect.

Once again, welcome to the fray.

Welcome cdnrogue!
Congrats on the new 2.
Don't be so quick to dismiss the sheath.
I never had an issue with mine.

I'm one of the few that loves the stock sheath. I stipple my grivory, and love them more than any other grip I've ever used. Idk, I guess I'm easy lol. Congrats on the new 2, its my fave blade by far.

yeah nothing wrong with the stock sheath or the grivory handles. Just be prepared to modify them. I wouldn't waste money on a new sheath or handles until you try putting a teklok on the stock sheath and cutting grooves or stippling the stock handles.

welcome and congrats. I also really like the factory handles. the shape and size is perfect for my hands. Ethans grivory handle design is famous for a reason. The only down side to them is traction when they get wet, you can fix this like bsmith said with stippling, or some file work, or use rough sandpaper, or even some ranger bands. I also love the factory sheath look, theres a few issues i have with the retention strap but its easily fixed as well. if you carefully draw your knife and re-sheath it you dont have to worry as much about the dulling claims. all in all its a great package and with little to no money you can adjust it to your needs. enjoy your new knife, you picked a great one to start with.

thanks for the advice, I plan on using it during the winter months as is. I am really fond of the green micarta handles on Ontario knives. All the micarta I have seen on here seen for sale tend to be a tan colour like on Ka-Bar and Tomar's website. I am not skilled nor do I have the tools to make them. I don't even know where to start? Does anyone have a pair they don't want? Perhaps I should put a posting up.

+1 for my stock BK2. I really like the sheath and grips. Without gloves, I don't even find traction to be an issue. With winter approaching and gloves becoming the norm... it becomes a problem. Have fun with it.

The "Green Micarta" that Kabar sells and makes, is more of a tan color, with some green accents.

There are some folks that make them here, but you'll be better off getting the Kabar micarta, dropping it in some Kelly Green RIT dye, for about an hour, after you cut the divot.

Even if you don't have the tools, there has to be someone around that can assist you in your area.

Thanks Moose, I may have to do the die job if I can find someone that can ship Kabar Micarta for under $10 bucks to Canada.

You should be excited-----neighbor !!! It is a GREAT knife. It was my BK&T gateway knife as well. Now, i have a whole herd of BK&T blades. They get rowdy sometimes. Be careful. :D Welcome.

hey cdnrogue. i just received a BK2 from a beckerhead. never had a knife quite so beefy. can't wait to give 'er a go. i have a BK17, as well. i do plan on changing out the handle. it's not that i don't like the grips. it's that i don't like the holes in the handle. i will replace with micarta scales with solid pins. well...at least, that's the plan.

congrats and enjoy!

I agree, although there is always room to customize. I was overall happy with the 2nd gen sheath, just added a tek lock for scout carry and a goody pouch.

I always wanted to try a Teklok on the stock sheath.
Let me know how you like it.
