I know there have been a lot of questions but I was wondering how can you know your getting a 2nd gen bk2? I know im getting one on popular knife website like newgraham, knifeworks, chestnut ridge knife shop to name a few if i was to order from one of them but I was planning on ordering from amazon.com because they had free shipping so I would be able to get it cheaper because no shipping cost. Since I want to order from amazon how can i tell if im getting a 2nd gen?

Thanks for the feedback, PittRules

well, one of the dangers of amazon, is you get what you get. they might sell it directly, or from one of a dozen vendors.

if you call a REAL knife shoppe, you can talk to a human being who can hopefully tell you they are holding the damn thing in their hands RIGHT THERE. even better, maybe they throw in freebies, or just do the right thing for you.

amazon is sometimes THE way to go, and sometimes it's not.

Buy it from Amazon and not one of their many vendors and you'll get the 2nd Gen.
They've been out of them for weeks and now they're in stock so it would have to be new stock.

I can confirm I received a second gen BK-2 from Amazon and recently placed an order for another one (I had an Amazon gift card)!

So do you have a preference on one generation or the other? I actually just ordered one off of Amazon myself.

Another, I got ordered from Amazon it was the new one generation two. Ready to rock free shipping.

Everything I have from Amazon for the last year or so is the newer stuff with the extended tang.

I wouldn't expect to get a Gen 1 from any seller right now, unless they are private and they are selling it used, or as a collector. The Gen2 has been out long enough, that if it says new, I would be willing to bet my paycheck, its a Gen2.

Tell ya what, order it, and if you get a Gen1, drop me an email, and I will swap you for a Gen2, I been wanting and looking for a NIB GEN1, and they aren't easy to find.

Am I the only one that prefers the 1st generation over the 2nd? I don't like the glass breaker as it makes it slightly longer.

I'm happy to have one of each. The grind lines, finish, and sheath are all better on the second generation. MY first gen is not ground completely evenly. The edge is pushed to the left, if looking straight down on it. I evened it up as much as possible, without affecting shape of the blade. That is how I ended up with the polished primary grind line.

I'm still up in the air about the extended tang. Balance feels about the same, with the cut outs. I could go either way on the tang.

My user is Camillus, which is Gen .5 or something. But I do eventually want to get a Gen 2 KaBar this year.
