I sharpen this BK2 on Sharpmaker using medium, fine and super fine stones and 40 degrees angle. I got now razor sharp blade but as you can see on the picture ,I only touched the microbevel, the rest
is still factory rough grind.
As far as consider usefulness, the knive is in perfect shape, but I want to know is it maybe better to polish that factory grind to near mirror polish or is it irrelevant?

Thank you for your answers.

I feel that the polish is a matter of preference. If you are planning on putting the knife to work, (heavy use) I personally wouldn't bother with a mirror polish. Now that said, it is fun to play around with the knife and sharpening/stropping is an excellent way to familiarize yourself with that blade.

That makes sense.
Perhaps I will continue to play with it,and make more expirience on sharpening. Thank you for your response.

I personally like a mirror polish but it is all preference. With the wicked edge it's just really easy to give mirror edge finish so an extra 5-10 minutes is worth it to me. If it was more time consuming I would probably pass on it.

I have had a lot of luck recently with various grits of sandpaper and a homemade strop.

The Beckers that I have used this technique one now have a very shiny if not a mirror polish and are sharp as hell.

If you only hit the very edge with your worksharp, then you did it at a very steep angle. It will cut and be strong, but will just get steeper over time. I'd reset your angle a bit until your abrasive is contacting higher up the edge bevel. But maybe this edge is appropriate for a BK2...

It's not worksharp,it's Spyderco Sharpmaker. I use 40 degrees angle, but hit mainly lower portion of bevel. Factory bevel was pretty rough so maybe I will need to use 'heavy machinery' :) before sharpmaker stones. I have 120,240 and 400 grid
Moldmaster stones from Congrestools.

I did a little work, not much,so now the blade is more polished:

Have to say a convex, even a slight convex, makes this blade perform a lot better. Just knocking the shoulders off the V grind makes a big difference. It looks like you might have done a little of that in your second progress pic. IMO this is one of those "secrets" to getting the BK2 to be even more of an amazing performer.

I had her out this morning and fixed the rounded tip and stropped the edge a bit, before some light yard work.

Cuts better than a blade that thick should.
