BK-2 Still the Best Choice?

I've need of a primary fixed blade for all the uses one would find in the bush short of batoning, chopping, things like that. I'd prefer to use a hatchet or a saw for that stuff. So, given this, is the BK-2 still the ideal choice for a "one-knife" solution? Or, since I won't be using some of the things that make it great, does this then open me up for more options around the same price or maybe even a bit more?

I was thinking the F1, maybe a semi-custom bushcraft knife, things like this.

Opinions?

If you are bringing a hatchet, than no the bk2 is not the best option.. Too thick for finite carving and slicing.. in a 1 knife and no other tool situation, you can start acepting the compromises that "do all" survival knives offer, But if you are already commited to bringing dedicated heavy use tools, than I say go with a precieison carver or cutter.. a bushcraft style knife will serve you well.

i really like my bk2, but i would want to carry an izula or something similiar with it.

Heck...if you are comitted to carrying a hatchet or saw, all that's left is light bushcraft and food prep. You need a thin slicer. You could get by quite well with a slipjoint!

I tend to agree with Riley on this one. If you are going to be carrying an axe and saw, then your one knife solution would be a Mora Bushcraft Triflex, IMO.

I love my BK2 and it is my "the knife" and it is my 1 knife solution, as in I only have 1 knife, and that's it. It batons, chops, splits, and makes fine cuts for me. I can make traps, cordage, and bowdrill kits with it, no problem.

Hope this helps.

Mora, Nessmuk, Kephart, or some bushcraft knife is right up your alley. As long as you keep the hatchet/axe with your gear.
I like taking multiple knives, what if you happen to loose that one knife? BK2 is a great knife, but jack of all trades, not a great slicer or hunting knife.

BK2 would be a great choice if you happened to chop down a tree and it smashed your hatchet.

You could still chop stuff and so forth.

If the hatchet is a given though, I'd stick with a BK11 or something similar. Here's my currently weird looking one (not sure I'm crazy about the rawhide wrap or that patina)...
