My one and only fixed blade is a BK7. I have been looking for a smaller knife for short day hikes and (limited weight) backpacking trips for a long time. Up until now, I have always planned on a BK2, however I have been watching KA-BAR SHOT videos and the BK10 is beginning to look very appealing. My main concern with it is the price. From what I have been hearing it is retailing at about $120. What is it that makes this knife so much more expensive than the famous BK2 and is it really worth the extra cash? Any impute appreciated.

MSRP is at about $120 you can expect to pay anywhere from $60-$80 tops for it. If I was presented with the oppertunity I would take the 10. 99 times out of 100

I think for day hikes and whatnot, a good "smaller" knife would be the 16. Its a slicier version of the 2 without the bulk. I love my 2 but I really want a 16. Plus Ethan swears by the 16, thats gotta mean something;)

Yes I have considered the smaller knives but I want something that will still be able to prepare firewood, baton, ect. Thanks for the clarification on the price guys.

I'm very excited for this. I'm heading back up to Oregon in July to visit my friends and family so I'll have to grab a 10 and a 16 before then. Need to order some foam so I can bend some kydex for them too.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but you are looking for a lighter knife for day hikes and backpacking correct? If this is the case the 7 is lighter than the 2 or the 10..... By all means grab a 10 as I will be, but for something lighter than the 7, the 2 or 10 are not your answer.

NO BK&T blade will have trouble doing that, SERIOUSLY !!! The real question is: how good are you at sharpening ? Some people have trouble sharpening a 1/4" thick piece of steel. If you need mega-heavy-duty then the BK2 is what you want. If you want an EXCELLENT all-rounder, the BK10 would serve you fine, as would the BK16.

Get a 16 and a folding saw. To round out a versatile group get a hatchet or hawk also. The 16 and saw weigh nothing and many hawks are very light weight also.

The 10 is actually lighter then the 7 but only by like half an ounce
