Before I got to a well known auction site and order one I need some advice, do I get the bk2 or use the funds for micarta on my 9 & 11?

I think that's really up to you. :) We're all going to say "go for it!"

What use do you see that shorter blade being used for? If you have a 9 & 11, I'd probably steer you more towards one of the tweeners to add the most functionality.

I love my 2, but mrn* is right. For your combo get a tweener.

If you get a tweener, which one? I've got the 16 & 15. I find that I carry and use the 16 more but I'm still eyeing the 17.

I was eyeing the 17, I don't know though, I might ease up a bit, enjoy and use what I've got coming then maybe decide on another.

As all can tell, I new here. I've been eyeing Becker knives for a while. Is the main difference between the BK2 & BK16 the size of the blade?

Smaller grip and the production BK16 is FFG instead of saber ground. This makes a huge difference in fine field-type work. With all the hype about bushcraft blade, the BK16 is a very affordable and darn near perfect model to go to. The BK2 is the tank version, able to dismantle lawnmowers and old woodstoves and still come back for more!

On my scales, the BK2 is 14.8 Ounces. The BK16 is 6.0 Ounces. Weight may be important.

I have had the BK-2 for a while. If you lock your keys in your vehicle, it would be a great knife to pry your door open with. If you decide to put a keg of beer in the fridge and need to cut a hole for the tapper, the BK2 is your friend. Add a mail slot to your front door? Done. For me it's too heavy to do overnight backpacking trips with; I'm pretty much a lightweight packer and it would be too much knife. Having said that, it is one of my favorites.

I just got the BK16 2 days ago. My first thoughts are lightweight and small. A great knife to have at a picnic table to cut up some beef, bell peppers, onions add a little olive oil and spices. OK, you can tell I am hungry! It could be a great steak knife or still split some small kindling up. Think real tough steak knife!! It would be easy to carry all day. You would forget about it.

I don't like micarta, I prefer stock. I actually like the smooth grips; in my mind, more sanitary and easier to clean. I don't care about looks and they grip just fine. I like the sheath for the BK-2 a lot...I didn't like the beltloop so I removed it by taking out the rivets holding it on and added a large Blade-Tech Tek-Lok (hope I spelled that right!). The bk16 I have came with the nylon sheath which is also nice.

They all look great and you can't go wrong.
