I know the 24 is listed with a 15 degree edge angle, but based on the sharpie trick and my Sharpmaker I know mine is a good bit larger than that. Before I spend the time reprofiling I want to ask you guys what angle you use on your 24. This is my first blade in d2, and I don't know much about this steel other than it will take a while to reprofile. I guess it boils to this, does 15 degrees or 20 degrees suit this knife and this steel better?

Thanks,
Joseph

If it cuts stuff, it's good enough for me ;)

I know the various angles have different uses. I'm interested in this thread.

Mine was pretty close to 15/side (16 and 17 I think), so I went with that. It really did take a while to change it just a few degrees with my sharpmaker using both sandpaper and diamond rods. I have used it really hard and haven't had any issues with chipping other than when I accidentally hit a rock, so I would say it handles 30 inclusive pretty well. That said, if I were to do it over again, I would just leave the factory bevel just to save time and use the sharpmaker set to 20 for touch-ups. I would be surprised if you notice any decrease in performance, and my gut tells me that D2 would be better with a more obtuse edge anyway.

On a side note, that is an awesome little knife you got there! One of my favorites by far. I feel like mine cuts best with a slightly toothy edge (I usually stop with the medium stones, sometimes even the diamond rods), but I have had success going all the way to ultra-fine.

Thanks CloudsRest, unless someone presents a VERY convincing argument for taking it all the way to 15 I'll most likely save time and go with 20. And I agree, it's a great knife. I've been very impressed with it so far.

My prefrence is around 17 or 18 dps because it has a bit thicker stock than most folders so I continue with that strength but still want it to slice pretty well, but theres nothing wrong with 15, I would choose that over 20 for sure.

I too am interested. I am not very good at free hand sharpening and in no real hurry to get better. I use a Ken Onion Work Sharp for most of my knives. Just bought a Work Sharp Guided Field Sharpener which is the only diamond stone I own. Should work fine on D2 but it sharpens at 20 with micro-bevel at 25 per side. Don't want to take it to 20 and then find out it needs 15.

Also, anyone tried a Work Sharp or KOWS on a 24?
