Today I recieved a bk24 (my first becker btw) and I immediately liked it. After inspection though I noticed a few problems, there are major grind marks on all along the edge of the knife. Its also bent ever so slightly; the handle doesnt quite line up with the blade. Finally there are some small spots on the handle that appear to be none other than some pitting. Im sorry I dont have pics, I dont have a way to upload them. I will be contacting the place I purchased this from so I can send it back, theres just too many issues to let slide. I will buy another one though, hopefully I will have better luck with the next one. Has anyone else had a similar experience with this and is it common or am I really unlucky?

Yes.

I didn't mind the grind marks or discoloration, in fact I loved the stonewashed finish, but mine was ever so slightly crooked as you're describing so I got rid of it. I prefer the 11 in any case. The D2 steel is cool. Wish I could get an 11 in it.

The stonewashing is well done but the grind marks really bug me, they are almost like jimping. I really like the knife though so I look forward to (hopefully) getting one with better f&f.

All Beckers have pretty rough grind lines on the flats, most are coated the BK24 is not. Now the edge should be sharp with no heavy grind lines  I sanded my BK24 smooth but that was just because I wanted to.

The edge was pretty sharp and even bevel but it looked rough, the heel was very dull but all that can be easily fixed so it doesnt bother me. I already ordered another and will send the bad one on its way tomorrow or friday. What did you use to sand down the edges?

Get the Camillus 11, it's rumored to be made from D-2. Don't quote me on that though I'm not 100% positive.

Yup, there are heavy grind marks on the spine of the knife. It's a $80 knife that you get for $40 it isn't going to be perfect but it's going to be one hell of a blade that will last you a LONG time. Go get some 400 wet dry sand paper and avanti!

What he said. I don't know how the grind marks could bother someone. I barely notice them. It's a great knife. Only Becker i have.

I think I started with 220 but it may have been 180 you work your way up sanding in one direction until all the marks are gone. Then you go up say from 220 to 360 or 400, then 800 then you should have a nice satin for a mirror it will need to be 2000 at least. Each time you switch grit you sand in the opposite direction. The D2 is not easy to sand, but the finish turned out great.

Well grind lines dont normally bother me much, but these were BAD, they were more aggressive than the jimping on some knives. If the next one I already ordered turns out to be the same I will sand it down. Thanks for the help everyone, I appreciate it.

man, would i love a sabre san mai 11...

to the OP.. sorry to hear about your 24. hope the next is good.

the marks on the edges, are likely from the laser cutting process. if we're thinking the same thing.
