I watched a Ethan Becker video on the BK10 or 12 I think & Ethan mentioned that he didn't design the 5 & 15.
He mentioned this after commenting on the choils.
Was wondering if this was a factor in these being discontinued? If they are in fact being discontinued?
I would think the 15 sells as good as the 17 but obviously not like the 16.
Opinions...

They actually work great for a TON of things besides Kitchen Duty and Filet work. I think people get too hung up on how thin they are to really work them out, but I LOVED my 5, and I actually like my 15 even more than my 5.

Kay wouldn't take a farm in Texas for her 15. Never leaves home without it. It's a great design and extremely handy for a lot of things. Don't let these get away without getting your hands on one or two.

I have the 5 & looks like I'll have to get the 15 as well.
The choils work for me too.

I agree with the other folks, they're both great blades and a lot more versatile than people generally assume.

In the vid with Ethan and Jerry, I recall E mentioning that in a team/group camp one guy could have a BK9 for the really heavy work and another guy should have a BK5 for pretty much everything else... that makes a ton of sense to me.

I know they're not marketed as such, and maybe I shouldn't even bring it up... but by simply sharpening the clip on either you would have one helluva fast wicked fighter, too... just sayin'... I'd very much rather have a light, quick knife like these if facing down a bad guy or a bear than a heavier/slower knife... (well, I'd actually rather have a 12ga pump loaded with slugs in that situation, but you get the idea)

Here's the video in question:

I think a lot of us tend to focus on bowie type blades especially in factory knives. I know I do. But I picked up a BK-15 to give it a whirl and I can't be more pleased. Not a fighting person, but I would see it as a much better fighter than some of the other Beckers.
